I swerved my face fully away from his thumb, shrugging his hand off sharply—though my skin still tingled where he touched, hot and lingering, betraying every cold look I forced onto my face. I stepped sideways, pressing my back straighter, lifting my chin like I was untouched and unbothered, even as my pulse hammered wild and loud in my ears. “Stop touching me like that,” I snapped, voice firm but trembling just a little—one tiny crack I prayed he wouldn’t catch. “You think sweet words and light touches will make me surrender easily? I’ve guarded myself too long to crumble just because you decide to chase me with all this intensity.
