Chapter 5 — Royal High Academy Soon enough, she adjusted to her mother's advice. She stopped talking about the strange figure. She stopped telling her mother about the strange eyes she sometimes saw. She stopped asking about the strange wind that seemed to follow her wherever she went. She began to believe that it had all been part of her imagination. Perhaps she had only been having childish thoughts. After all, she had grown up without friends. She had no one to play with, no one to share her thoughts with, and no one to tell her whether the things she saw were real. So she convinced herself that there was nothing wrong. Life continued. The years passed quickly. The little girl who had once asked her mother if she was cursed was no longer a little girl. By the age of fifteen, she had grown into a beautiful young lady. Yet, even after all those years, there was still something different about her life. She had never truly understood why people avoided her. She had never understood why the villagers became quiet whenever she walked past them. And she had never understood why her parents became nervous whenever she asked questions about the day she was born. But she had learned to stop asking. Her life had become peaceful in its own strange way. Until one day, a letter arrived. She was at home when she noticed some people approaching their house. They were not people she recognized. They spoke with her parents for a while before handing them a letter. The moment her father received it, his expression changed. Her mother also looked unusually serious. The young girl watched them from a distance. She wanted to know what was inside the letter. She wanted to know who had sent it. But whenever she tried to get closer, her parents lowered their voices. She couldn't hear what they were saying. After the visitors left, her parents continued discussing the letter. She waited for one of them to explain. But neither did. That night, she noticed that her parents were still talking about it. Something about the letter seemed important. The next morning, her mother called her. "My child." She turned around. "Yes, Mother?" Her mother looked at her for a moment. Then she smiled. "You're going to school." The young girl stared at her. "School?" "Yes." She became excited. After growing up with almost no friends, the thought of finally going to school made her curious. "What school?" Her mother paused. "Royal High Academy." Her eyes widened. "Royal High Academy?" She had heard of the school many times. It was one of the most respected and expensive schools in the entire kingdom. Important families sent their children there. Children from powerful homes studied there. Even people who had never attended the school knew its name. She looked at her mother in disbelief. "But… how?" Her mother smiled. "How what?" "How can I go there?" Her mother looked away. "Everything has already been arranged." The young girl became suspicious. "By who?" Her mother didn't answer. "Mother?" "You don't need to worry about that." "But how did we get the money?" Her mother remained silent for a moment. Then she gently touched her daughter's face. "Just be happy that you have the opportunity." The young girl nodded slowly. But she wasn't satisfied. She knew her parents. She knew that Royal High Academy was extremely expensive. She also knew that their family had never lived the kind of life that would make such a school easy to afford. So how had they suddenly gotten the money? Who were the people who had brought the letter? And why had her parents refused to tell her anything? She wanted to ask more questions. But the look on her mother's face made her stop. That evening, she began preparing for school. She packed the few things she needed while thinking about the new life waiting for her. For the first time, she would be leaving the familiar place where she had spent her entire childhood. She would meet new people. She would see a different world. Maybe, she thought, she would finally have friends. Maybe nobody at Royal High Academy would know about her past. Maybe she could finally live like every other girl her age. She smiled at the thought. But there was still something she couldn't shake. The letter. She couldn't stop thinking about it. Something about the way her parents had reacted to it made her feel that it wasn't an ordinary school letter. There was something they weren't telling her. Something they were keeping from her. The following morning, she stood outside with her belongings. Her mother helped her with the last few things. Her father stood nearby, unusually quiet. She looked at both of them. "I'll come back soon." Her mother smiled. "Take care of yourself." She nodded. Then she turned toward the road. She didn't know what waited for her at Royal High Academy. She didn't know the people she would meet. She didn't know why she had been chosen. And she certainly didn't know that the journey to Royal High Academy would bring her closer to the secrets her parents had spent fifteen years hiding from her. For the first time, she was leaving home. And somewhere deep inside her, a feeling told her that her life was about to change forever.
