NOVA Please don’t go, mother. Please stay with me. I need you. My eyes suddenly snapped open, and I stopped reaching for the dark ceiling. Where am I? As I gradually forced myself to sit, I noticed that roughly three maids were standing on either side of me. As she smoothed her brown uniform, one of them said, "She is awake." Head tilted to the side, I blink lightly. "Identify yourself." "Miss, relax. Once Alpha Phoenix arrives, I think you will understand everything. Now we would go get him. "Just remain firm," she explains. Alpha Phoenix?. As they rushed out of the room, I placed a cold hand on my chest. What was happening? The last thing I remembered was. Wait. I couldn’t remember a thing. I forced myself to remember what I knew about myself, but I was unable to put it all together. The worst part was that I only felt as though I had lost a loved one; I was unable to recall the dream I had just experienced. A figure entered as the door pulled open. The lighting was a little too dim, and I could hardly see anything. But I felt like my entire body was on fire as he got closer to the bed. Why?. Because this man in front of me was drop-dead gorgeous with brown eyes and dark hair, which had its red tips falling to the front of his face. In summary, he looked completely delicious. Still, I sat there, trying not to look so cheap. With a tense accent, he said, "Hello, mate." "He is our mate!" A voice whispered from within me. I looked around, terrified. "Who are you?" "I just told you I was your mate." I pushed my long brown hair away from my eyes and looked at the stranger, terrified. "I heard that, but nothing makes sense to me. Really, I cannot recall." Closing my eyes to control my emotions, I mumbled. "Please do not be upset with me or anything. To truly understand you, I simply need to see my family. They are alive, right? Please take me to them." My gaze was drawn to him by the firmness of his palm. He gently flicked the tears from my cheek, causing my heart to pound again in my ribcage. "Don’t be sad. I would call a doctor to examine you." I nodded slowly, not wishing to irritate him. For the first time, I saw Alpha Phoenix's grey suit as he retreated. It was a perfect fit for him and gave him a truly princely appearance. I could feel it in my loins, even though it seemed softly unbelievable that this man was my mate. "You shouldn’t be scared. I’m Jane, your wolf," came the soft voice. My wolf?. "How come I don’t remember you?" I asked through the mind link. "You just got me. You were wolfless for so many years, and..." "Does that mean that I can shift to my wolf at will?" After a pause, I noticed Alpha Phoenix talking to someone at the door. He was my mate, so I should be safe. He wouldn’t do anything to hurt me. "Nova, you can’t shift." I am a type of wolf who cannot shift unless the moon goddess wills it," she told me right away. "The Doctor!" Alpha Phoenix announced abruptly. Pushing his spectacles on the bridge of his nose, a short man wearing a white shirt and black pants entered. I just stared at him out of curiosity. He identified himself as Doctor Ben. I was prodded in various places for the next fifteen minutes without even having time to process that I had a wolf and at the same time didn't. Alpha Phoenix was frowning at me when I caught a glimpse of him. Perhaps he was simply worried about my health. I could not tell since I did not know him or recall anything about myself. The doctor abruptly withdrew, giving me a supportive tap on the arm. "Well, Miss..." "Nova," Alpha Raven answered. My name is Nova. It sounded lovely, but I could not remember anything about that name. How could I possibly have forgotten everything? I tried to restrain myself from fidgeting too much by placing a hand on my thigh. "After examining Miss Nova, I think she is experiencing memory loss as a result of a brief brain seizure." As he put some items in his back, Doctor Ben continues, "The drama she has been through in the past few days is too much for her human side to handle." I gulped. "I... have memory loss?" The grim-faced Doctor Ben turned to face me. "Sadly, Moss Nova, that is the case. Do not worry, though; Alpha Phoenix's care will undoubtedly bring back memories of your earlier times together," he said calmly. At that moment, I noticed Alpha Phoenix grinning. What about my situation was so remarkable? I did not understand it. Doctor Ben was suddenly being pushed out, and Alpha Phoenix took his place, closing the door after him. The dark paneling made him appear even more domineering, but I did not mind, and I sat up further in the bed, feeling my wolf become even more excited about our bond with him. He sat down next to me and then grasped my hand. "This was not how I wanted it to happen." Tears filled my eyes, and I let out a soft sigh. "Everything is fine. It is not your fault at all. But I would like to know what caused this.". I felt my body tremble at the sight of him as he lifted my hand to kiss the underlines of my palm. He gazed at me with gentle brown eyes. Still, I could not help but wonder if I had seen the smirk on his face before. He seemed like another man, and I tried to convince myself that I had been blessed by the moon goddess to have him as a mate. "Will you be able to handle it?" He asked abruptly, jolting me out of my thoughts. My head swung up and down. "I guess..." "There is no other way to put it, so I will be direct. There is nobody in your life. Your pack and family are all gone. The Heart-Bound Pack would remain a thing of the past. "Until the day you die, you belong to me and no one else," he spat. I stared at him, shocked, unable to believe what he was saying. "What are you saying?" "You heard me, Nova Wolfe. Does any of these ring a bell to you?" A vague recollection of the past came to me, but it was so vague that I could hardly identify the person who was crying, so I withdrew my hands. My memories were clouded by a fog that made it hard for me to breathe. I licked my lips softly and pulled my knees up to my chin, whispering, "I do not remember anything, but I know that you’re my mate. My spirit says so, and..." "Is it your wolf or spirit?" I looked at him, a little surprised. "What made you mention my wolf?" He shrugged. "The best confidant in situations like this is your wolf, you know. I want to make sure you still have her around you." "Well, she said you were my mate, and I should trust you," I replied quickly. He smiled as he leaned over and pecked me on the cheek. "That is good to hear. However, there is no reason to worry. I would be here to look after you, and you would gradually get better. But I have got to go now. "You can stay by yourself, right?" I nodded slowly. "Sure, but please turn on more lights." I am not good with dark colours. "You used to love them," he said with ease as he left the room slowly. A sense of separation from my wolf threatened to overwhelm me as my fingers combed through my hair. I immediately pushed it away as I concentrated on what Alpha Phoenix had said to me. My family was gone. Although he never explained, it was obvious that the shock of it had brought me to this point. The back of my eyes burned with tears as I felt terrible for the family I could hardly recall. This was not right. How could I suddenly lose everything?. "Oh, goddess! You shouldn’t have done this." -- -- "Your blue eyes are your best asset," Alpha Phoenix said as he led me down the stairs of the twin mansion. I gave him a soft smile as I looked up. Even though it was late at night, he insisted that he had to take action to keep me with him forever. I did not question him at all because it sounded so dreamy. I just knew it was bliss to spend the last 48 hours with him. At least, I did not think about my deceased family as much as I had anticipated. "Why do you look at me that way?" He teased. Unconsciously, I slipped a lock of hair behind my ears and grinned. "Well, I was just thinking about how fortunate I am to have such a wonderful life with you." He gave a gentle eye roll. "You forget how sweet I was in the past, after being unconscious for three days?" Softly, my fingers closed on his arm. I sincerely apologize, Phoenix. I am going to live in the present more." He laughed, and then I found myself standing in front of a crowd of people who were observing me with interest. As I gripped Alpha Phoenix's hands, I hoped the long green gown would go well with his gray suit. Bowing to Alpha Phoenix, the crowd said, "Greetings, Alpha Phoenix." When I looked at Alpha Phoenix, his confidence was blinding. It was unbelievable. Before he turned to face me, he flicked his free hand. "The reason I called you all here is to introduce you to Nova Wolfe, your future Luna. We have been dating for a while, as you are aware, and we have made the decision to formally announce our relationship." As I looked around, I noticed that everyone was cheering loudly. I wondered why they were not coming over to cheer me up, given that I had been living here prior to my accident. Alpha Phoenix leaned into my ears. "I’m sorry, love. I told them not to stress you out too much today because you do not remember everything." So thoughtful... "Thank you," I whispered. A redheaded man stepped forward. He was dressed differently than the others, wearing a plain blue shirt and back pants. "Hello, there," he said in greeting, swirling his white glass. "Hello." "I am Beta Vail," he said, stretching his hand. I extended my delicate hand toward Beta Vail. His grip was firm. "It is nice to meet you." I am so sorry, but I cannot remember you because my memory is so picky these days." He gave a tongue-click. "Do not give that any thought. I am confident you will fit right in as time goes on." Suddenly, Alpha Phoenix said, "Let us go." With a blink, I followed him to the stairs. As the guests laughed, I overheard them remark that we could not separate for even two minutes. I wish Alpha Phoenix had asked what I wanted because it was a little awkward. I wish I could have stayed at that party longer. I let him pull me to the left wing of the house and sighed. He opened the door, and we entered the balcony. Not that I recall much of my past anyway, but I had never been here before. There was a black mat on the floor, and the wind tossed my hair around. There was a cosy chair and some blankets by the side. He reclaimed his hand from mine, and I tried to find him through it all. That is when I noticed he was removing his suit jacket. "What are you doing?" "We need to transform into our wolves right now."
