Mrs O’Higgins – the Reform Club – Roldo and Sarah – dinner with the Landrys – a history lesson
Mrs O’Higgins was in the midst of dinner preparations when Charlie found her.
“No, it’s no trouble you asking me,” she said, though she was clearly only giving Charlie a fraction of her attention as she chopped mushrooms in a whirlwind of steel. “That copper wanted to know what I knew of the cab or the body under it. I said I knew nothing of the one, and less of the other.”
“Oh,” Charlie said, disappointed.
“But after he left,” she continued, “I had a word with Mrs Blewit—Lady Habersfield’s cook—and she said that Corbert—Sir Michael Westbury’s butler—said he saw the man tinkering with his engine, and thinks he must have caught himself in the works.”
