Lord Grimsdale was in a fouler mood than usual, and foul moods always made him feel old. Every twinge from his joints, every rumble from his guts, every time his false teeth shifted in his mouth added to his fury.
Sarah—his own niece, his heir—had betrayed him.
“It be ready, your honour,” Turlington said.
At first he had not been certain. He knew that she had been seeing the Landry boy, but he could not believe that she might give away her uncle’s plans along with her heart. When Lady Decharles claimed that Sarah had revealed nothing, he had been too willing to believe her.
