It was Kael, Ethan's brother, he looked at me and gave a slight smile.
Did he remember me?
I glanced at Tiara, and she returned my look as we both turned our attention back to Kael.
"Uh, you must be Miss Kyrie?" he said as he approached me and extended his hand. It reminded me of the last time we met.
That was the day I went to the airport, and I recalled the last thing he had said to me years ago.
“Trust me, I’ll be waiting patiently for you,” he had told me.
“Oh, you don’t shake hands?” he said, snapping me back to the present as I realized I hadn't taken his hand, making him to pull it back.
“Um, actually, your company is interested in partnering with ours for a project, right? I’m here to let you know we accepted the offer, although we could have organized a meeting, but something came up,” he said.
“Something came up? So will the meeting be rescheduled?” Tiara asked, and Kael shifted his gaze to her.
“Yes, unfortunately, Mr. Reynolds lost his daughter-in-law today, and…
“Wait, daughter-in-law? Mr. Reynolds has a daughter-in-law?” Tiara asked, sounding surprised.
One thing about Tiara is she can navigate any scenario, like playing along while pretending to be unaware just to gather more information.
Kael hesitated before tucking his hands into his pockets.
“Well, people don’t really know about it,” he replied.
“Then why did you tell us?” I questioned, looking at him with suspicion, and he met my gaze.
“Because I want to,” he answered, and we held each other’s stare for a few seconds until Tiara broke the silence.
“Err… okay? Just let us know when the meeting is rescheduled,” Tiara said, and Kael nodded while still looking at me.
“Nice to meet you, Miss Kyrie,” he said before leaving the office.
“What was that? Why were you two looking at each other like that?” Tiara abruptly asked.
“Do you think he recognizes me?” I whispered, more to myself than to her.
“Recognizes you? I don’t think so. You two were just exchanging some strange looks that I couldn’t figure out. Oh, he is Ethan’s brother, right?” Tiara responded, and I moved to sit down on the chair and spun around.
“He’s actually so good looking. Wait, don’t tell me you have feelings for him,” Tiara immediately said, and I shot her a look.
“Feelings? No, it’s just that what if I had listened to him the first time we met when he suggested I agree to the engagement, maybe my dad wouldn’t have passed away the next day,” I said with a sigh.
“You’ve been saying that for years, and we both know the situation is odd and suspicious. They wanted you to get engaged, and then you went to Mr. Reynolds to say you didn’t want to marry his son, and the next day your dad committed suicide, just like that and then after that, they kept the engagement a secret,” Tiara explained, and I could have sworn I’d heard her say that more than a hundred times already.
“Mr. Reynolds killed your father, Ethan framed you for drugs, your sister manipulated the situation to her advantage, and planted drugs in your room. Case closed. The only question left is, who is your real mother?” Tiara said, and I just shook my head.
“We shouldn’t jump to conclusions yet. We’ll take this step by step,” I replied. “Scarlett will be here next week Monday, right? I’ll have an interview-like screening with her,” I added.
“But you already accepted her,” Tiara pointed out.
“It still doesn’t change anything,” I answered as I spun in the chair.

(Two Days Later)
I was at a private art gallery admiring a painting when I noticed someone standing beside me, and upon turning, I discovered it was Ethan.
I glanced back at the painting.
“You know you’re the first woman who radiates that kind of vibe, like that aura, the kind that feels like a chilly breeze on a winter evening,” he said , but I continued to gaze at the painting.
“I heard that our companies are teaming up. What’s your purpose ? What do you want? You must have a goal,” I heard him ask, and I faced him.
“Which question do you want me to address first?” I responded.
“Why don’t you explain why you want to help me and how you can do that? he said, “because I believe you’re after something,we don’t even know each other” he added
I folded my arms across my chest and stepped closer to him, but before I could reply, I noticed a cleaner tidying up miles away, making me to scoff.
“He’s working here now?” I quietly said, and Ethan glanced in the direction I was looking.
“Do you know him?”
“Yes, I fired him two days ago for bullying his junior colleague, he reminds me of those who bullied me in school,” I replied.
“You’ve been bullied before?” he asked, sounding taken aback.
“Why does that surprise you?”
“Well, you seem well-off, and with the aura you project, you don’t strike me as someone who could have been bullied because of her appearance,” he added, and I scoffed.
“Oh, so attractive girls don’t get bullied?” I asked while looking at him, but he remained silent.
“Have you ever bullied anyone?” I questioned, and after a brief pause, he turned his gaze to the painting.
“No,” he answered, making me grit my teeth as I shot him a glare and clenched my fists.
He has the gut to say No???
I needed to regain my composure.
I exhaled and collected myself.
“You want to know how I can help you?” I asked, and he looked at me again.
“That’s not the only question I asked you,” he replied.
I stepped even closer to him until we were nearly touching, then I reached out and touched his face.
I wished I could snap his neck at that moment, but instead, I simply smiled.
“Make me yours,” I said, my tone sweet yet hiding the malice in my heart, and he raised his eyebrow.
Those three words might appear as a romantic confession to some, but for me, they were a strategic play, a calculated move in the game of cat and mouse we were about to engage in.
For him, it might ignite desire, for me, it was the initial move in a plan of vengeance that would leave him broken.
