I stood in front of the mirror, putting on the red lipstick that completed my final look.
“Do you think Kael will show up?” Tiara asked while glancing at me.
“I’m not sure, but just follow the plan,” I answered, still gazing at my reflection. “Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” I said, smiling mostly at myself.
“You should let Levi accompany you, okay?” Tiara suggested, and I nodded in agreement.
Levi is my driver, but he also serves as my personal bodyguard, and Tiara was likely concerned about potential issues after what happened today,so she thought I needed him even though I felt nothing would happen.
I stepped outside and was escorted to the car, which then drove away.
Upon arriving at the location, Levi opened the back door for me, and I exited; it was a five-star restaurant. I walked inside with Levi by my side, and my gaze soon landed on Ethan, who was seated a short distance away.
“You can stay here; I’ll let you know if I need anything,” I informed Levi as I approached Ethan. When he saw me, he stood up and smiled.
“You made it,” he said, and to my surprise, he pulled out the chair across from him like a gentleman before taking his own seat. I looked around while making adjustments to myself.
“Looks like we’re the only ones here,” I said.
“Yeah, I reserved the entire place,” he replied, and just then, the waiter arrived with the menus. Ethan ordered his meal, and I did the same before the waiter departed.
“So, what’s the reason for wanting to meet?” I asked, my eyes fixed on him.
“How are you acquainted with Kael?” he asked, and I clasped my hands together, resting them under my chin as I focused on him.
“Oh, so this is about your brother?” I asked.
“I’ve never seen him look at a woman that way, let alone act like a hero,” Ethan said.
“So, that bothers you?” I whispered.
“I looked into your background, but to my surprise, it seems quite ordinary,” he mentioned. “And you were adopted?” he added.
“Well, I wouldn’t exactly call it adoption; you shouldn’t take everything you see at face value,” I replied in a more sinister tone.
“And what happened to your biological parents?” he asked.
“My father passed away, and I don’t know who my mother is,” I responded. Just then, the food arrived, beautifully presented, steaming, and richly aromatic.
“Oh, how do you know my brother?” he asked, slicing into his steak as if we were merely having a casual meal.
“I don’t really know him; he probably just finds me attractive,” I replied, prompting Ethan to raise an eyebrow. He then calmly stood, walked over to the wine bottle, and poured me a glass as if he hadn’t heard what I just said. After pouring one for himself, he sat back down.
“Oh, he visited my office a few days ago to discuss the collaboration,” I added, starting to cut into my steak as well.
“So, why don’t you like your fiancée?” I asked, looking up at him as I placed a piece of steak in my mouth.
“She disgusts me, and I can’t stand her, I just hated her ” Ethan responded.
“There has to be a reason you hate her; you can’t just hate someone without cause,” I said and there was a moment of silence before he finally spoke up.
“Should there a reason to hate someone?? He said with a small laugh and my hand in the cutlery tightened
“Oh so there’s no reason?? You just hate her?? And now that she’s dead , how do you feel?” I asked then he looked at me for a while
“I hated her to the point that I don’t care “ he said and then continue eating and as my hand tighten more on the cutlery , I could feel my inner boiling as different thoughts came to my mind like just stabbing him with the table knife.
How could he say something like that??
I shot him a harsh look, and in that moment, I realized I needed to step away before I lost my temper.
"I have to go to the restroom," I said, and before he could respond, I got up and left.
———
When I entered the bathroom, I simply stared at my reflection.
So he really had no particular justification??
He doesn’t feel any regret??
“Oh you just wait, Ethan Reynolds” I said to myself
I cleaned my hands, dried them, and then exited the bathroom to return to my previous seat.
“Are you alright?” he asked , and I nodded while smiling, then glanced at my wrist to see what time it was.
It’s nearly time.
If Kael shows up here tonight, then he definitely knows that I am Skylar Jones, but if he doesn’t come, he remains unaware, and I’m unsure whether I want him to find out or not.
“I’ve given it some thought,” he stated, looking up at me as I continued to gaze at him.
“About??”
He then rose and approached me, extending his hand, which I took, causing me to stand in front of him.
“Regarding your proposal,” he said as he leaned in closer, and I simply gazed at him. He got so near that our faces were nearly touching.
Honestly, if he leaned in any further, our lips might touch, and he would certainly dislike what followed because I wouldn’t take it lightly.
“I want to claim you as mine,” he murmured, and I could feel his breath on my skin.
Oh yes, it’s finally working.
At that moment, his gaze changed, and he appeared astonished by the sight of someone.
“Why are you here?” he asked, making my heart race.
Was it Kael??
I carefully turned my head to find out who it was.……
