Chapter 2 The Planet
Will’s POV:
“Listen up everyone. Once we open up the latch and we walk out whatever we see, whatever we experience from now on keep in mind that we are on a mission to start a new world here. No matter what we may discover, enjoy this and give yourselves a pat in the back. I sure am. Congratulations science pilots today your name goes down in history.” A quick applause followed before adjusting my helmet down and starting the oxygen. “Okay this is Commander William White mic check” and all my fellow pilots responded. It is time everything reads back fair and in good condition to go outside.
I lift open the latch to open up the doors and the ladder starts to descend and one by one we all step out. Marsa looks dry for as far as we can see and to our right we spot all the i.c.e rockets, equipment and supplies. It was about three football fields full of crap that just crash landed but after scavenging around nothing ever collided with anything else so that’s a plus.
“Fern if we can start compartmentalizing our layout for what I’m assuming will be the first street of lab and research offices as well as our spacious living area, the green house. "Lets get to work team" we worked for hours collecting and organizing where things should go gosh it was mess but it is what we are here for. After what seemed like forever. We sat inside our space vehicle eating our dinners, I eyed Lily she was eating so gracefully. I can’t believe myself. I came clean about my intentions with her and she surprised me by saying she was interested back. God I’m so horny but I brush away my thoughts as Fern hands me the latest report. They kept coming back positive for the right makings of oxygen but we can only know for sure if one of us actually tests the air. “So are you volunteering yourself?” Fern smirked at me as he wolfed down his lettuce tacos and took his seat. “As a matter of fact I will be testing it for the rest of us fucker so if something goes wrong and I’m out get ready to be in charge” I didn’t realize I made that decision until I was already voicing it. "You know the worst that can happen is you pass out? We will be right here to help out" Fern smiled. "Well I should be so lucky to have you" I wasnt lying.
“Dr. Daca could you accompany me during this oxygen test? If I pass out or theres a medical emergency I will need you by my side” I explained to the doctor who was picking up his dinner tray.. “Of course I will make the run with you Commander, however I should draw your blood now and make sure your vitals are steady for it” Dr. Bengi Daca. He is my height and size probably hitting his 50s. This was his first space mission in over 5 years he had been studying new materials that even I’m not fully aware of. He is smart and inspirational. These two doctors are the probably the best in the world we are very lucky to be working along side them although I don’t feel comfortable calling Dr. Moon “Yak” he is such a humorous man.
“Very well Dr. Daca I can go down to your lab with you now” I walked us out of the command pit and down to the lab where the doctors spend most of their time. “Commander I don’t feel like it’s necessary to take the breathing oxygen test until we can learn more.” Said the Doctor. “Listen I know its not absolutely necessary for a few days but if we can know now and keep the helmets off while we work on these dome homes it would be something” I assured him I’d be alright. We get to the lab and he scans his finger and eye to unlock the door. We didn’t come down here unless we were getting our blood drawn or needed meds. “So what do you think Doc a good 10 second? To inhale and exhale one good attempt at a breath?” I was curious at this point. “Well we will get out there and upon removing your head gear, which ill be holding near in case you react badly right away but I’m guessing from the reports I’ve read so far. You will be able to breath at first but were unsure how long and how good the breaths will be” he rubbed my arm with an alcohol pad and started drawing my blood. Put the vile right in the computer and there was me and my DNA human profile. So it seems like you’re in perfect health Sir. weighting in at 195lbs 5’11” blood type A+” he seemed pleased. “Let’s do this doc” I said confidently. “Lets” he smirked.
………..
Pilots Halie Michaels, Zenida Elliot, and Dr Daca and I headed out of the space vehicle to face reality. I didn’t get to kiss or talk to her before doing the test but I reminded myself that the quicker we make progress on the planet the quicker I can stick up for her and I as a couple back home on earth. Besides who can stop me from bringing this girl into my room once it’s actually constructed. The dome like offices and homes Fernando visualized for planet Marsa are going to go up easy as we landed, he is a true genius. 3D-4D printing was a thing of 2010 times and now years later the precut models we are working with are changing the lives of everyone back home.
The ladies helped me unlock my helmet and with the head piece in my ear I heard the doctor start his countdown. Here we go… “6…5…4…3…2….1…breathe”
……
Lily’s POV:
I watched in fear as our commander brought his helmet down with his hands and we all held our breath as we saw him raise his cheat as high as he could and let it drop. “YEAHHHH!!” We all cheered and clapped! He was breathing and he was laughing he could really breath just like that. The doctor and the two ladies also took off their helmet and were hugging. I got a little sense of jealousy that I wasn’t right there hugging him too! Oh my. I can’t allow this to overtake me. Damn it. We are on a mission! What is wrong with me?? “You are going to thrive out there with this air quality” I turned to see Commander Fernando smiling at me. “Thank you sir that is the plan” I smiled back at him.
He was just as handsome as William but he definitely has a lighter complexion. His frame was also wide and solid much like Williams I wonder if they worked out together? His next question really snapped me out of my thoughts “You know I’ve been noticing you and my buddy Whitey.. I mean Commander White, talking small talk hangin around each-other anything you want to share?” he was looking at me like he already knew ‘what was going’ “No sir our conversation are strictly personal” I assured him. Just then he looked up to see the 4 crew members come back inside. “Commander William are we ready to get out there and break ground or what?” he was truly a man who wasn’t afraid of anything or anyone this Fernando Francés he seems adventurous. “As a matter of fact Payload Francés you and Pilot Architect Sebastian Rubi should start heading out to our equipment site and get things started ill follow up with you shortly.” William made eye contact with me but only for a few seconds. The Architects and Doctors exited
“Listen up” William instructed. “It seems like the reports are correct and our air quality here is as much of a match to earth’s atmosphere as we can get. Honestly fellow pilots it feels like I can breathe better then ever. I hope this is a major development and help for Pilot Michaels And Pilot Elliot who are in charge of us staying alive breathing clean safe oxygen. Good luck ladies and Pilot Elliot if we can get new suits that are not so bulky? It is a good 75-80 degrees out there and we should have them to work more comfortably. Pilot Abel you will be the only one to have access to leave the designated area where we will be living. Whatever you find and come across I don’t have to repeat to you as you already know the procedures in place for you”Abel nodded his head.
“Pilot Yazmin Morgan I assume you will have our rover land vehicles build and ready to go in a few days??” Specialist Yazmin was in the Army working as a lead mechanic she is the best when it comes to rocket knowledge as well. “Yes sir the first one of many will be ready to use tomorrow after 12PM noon” she instructed. “That’s what I’m talking about specialist”
