Chapter 23
PrisonRanda was afraid. She was locked in the dungeons of the castle in Frelli without any means of contacting anyone. Would Carthinal realize what had happened? If he did how would he manage to rescue her? She sank down on the pallet that was to be her bed and wept.
It was dark. They had not left her a torch. She could hear the scrabbling of little claws on the floor. Rats! She drew her feet up onto the pallet, although she knew that rats were good climbers and they could easily get onto her bed.
Soon there was a rattling at her door and a small flap opened near the bottom. She saw the flickering light of a torch through the bars at the top of the door. A tray was pushed through with a wooden bowl and a jug of water on it.
