Shocking Reveal

Chapter 4 She picked up on the third ring, already laughing with someone else in the background. “What do you want now?” She snapped, her voice cold as ice. “I want a divorce.” Alexander replied, his voice calm… like it was the most casual thing he had ever said. “Meet me at Hargrove and Associates, 1221 Green street, at two o’clock. Come along with a pen.” He hung up before Elena could get a chance to respond. At the apartment, Elena dropped the phone and screamed with joy. “Yes! Finally!” She turned to Marcus who was eating cereal on the couch. “He wants a divorce! Today!” Marcus grinned with excitement. “About time. You're finally free, babe!” Elena grabbed her phone and dialed her mother's number, squealing with happiness. “Mother, it's happening! He's begging for a divorce!” Victoria's voice was filled with pure happiness. “Perfect! Take Richard along with you. Make sure that leech gets nothing. I can't wait to see him on the streets.” As soon as the clock hit 2pm, Elena walked into the law office with so much confidence, like she owned the place. She was putting on a tight dress that hugged her figure just right, with a pair of heels and sunglasses. The family lawyer, Richard, followed behind her with a fat briefcase. Alexander was already sitting at the table when they arrived. He was still putting on those same cheap clothes from yesterday, his hands folded, his face blank. Elena laughed as soon as she saw him. “There he is.” She mocked, calling Richard's attention. “Still putting on that same sad suit since yesterday. I bet life must be really hard that you can't even afford a decent suit.” She walked up closer, looking Alex dead in the eye. “Let's get this over with. I have plans tonight.” Richard stepped forward and opened the papers, reading it out to everyone's hearing. “It's simple. Mrs Thompson keeps all assets, accounts, properties. And Mr… uh…” He looked up at Alex, like he had suddenly forgotten his name. “Mr Alex gets nothing. Just sign here, and the deal is done.” Alexander took the papers and signed without battling words. He didn't even bother to read through the document. He just signed, like he had been waiting for this moment for so long. Elena signed also, smiling the whole time. “Done. Goodbye loser!” Richard stamped everything, as well as Hargrove, Alex’s lawyer, and the notary clicked her seal. Elena stood up and turned to Alex. “Pleasure doing business with you, Alex. Don't bother to call or text. And don't even dare to visit me. Just… get lost!” Alexander stood too. He looked at her one last time… his expression unreadable. “You got what you wanted.” He said quietly. “And you got what you deserve, poor loser!” She shot back. “It's not my fault you have to walk home with nothing. It's what the agreement says. Maybe if you get on your knees and beg me, I might be generous enough to give you some cents to get a cab.” Alexander turned and walked away without another word. Elena and Richard laughed as he made his way to the elevator. The black sedan was still waiting outside when Alex stepped out of the building. He slid into the backseat, locking his gaze ahead. “It's done. Take me out of here.” He said to the driver. He picked up a different phone lying beside him. He pressed one button and brought the phone close to his ear. A man's voice echoed instantly. “Yes, boss.” “Revoke the Thompson contract. All of it. Now.” “Already in motion. The press release goes live in thirty minutes.” “Good. Also freeze every account that touched Wellington money through Thompson Enterprises. I want them broke before dinner.” “Yes, sir.” Alexander ended the call and rolled the window down… the cold air brushed against his face as he stared at the cars speeding by. He looked at the platinum ring on his finger and turned it slowly… smiling coldly to himself. This was just the beginning of many troubles for the Thompsons. Meanwhile, Elena was at a fancy restaurant with Marcus and Victoria, popping champagne. “To freedom.” Victoria said with a proud smile, lifting her glass. The others joined in, clinking their glasses gently against hers in a quiet toast. Just then, Elena's phone buzzed. Then Marcus's. Then Victoria's… all at once. They looked at the screens with shaky hands, and their eyes widened when they saw the notifications. Breaking news— Wellington Empire Terminates Multi-Billion Contract with Thompson Enterprises Effective Immediately. It didn't end there. Their phones buzzed yet again. This time it was an alert from their banks. ‘Bank Account Frozen. Report to the branch for clarification.’ Underneath it, there was another message. ‘Credit Line Revoked.’ Elena's hands trembled so violently her champagne glass fell and shattered on the table. Victoria grabbed her phone tight, scrolling fast. A live video began to play on every screen in the restaurant. Alexander Wellington stood tall on the steps of the Wellington tower, dressed in a luxurious black tuxedo which cost more than the whole of Thompson's fortune. Several cameras flashed at him as he delivered his speech. “My first act as chairman and CEO,” he said, his voice calm and deadly at the same time. “...is to take the Wellington Empire to greater heights, and that includes taking out everyone who ever dared try to bring me down in the past.” His lips pressed into a thin line, his gaze locked ahead. “Today, I stand before you all to officially announce that the Wellington Empire has cut all ties with the Thompsons. The contract between us has been revoked, effective immediately. This simply means every privilege and benefit the Thompsons once enjoyed under the Wellington name is now null and void.” The camera zoomed in on his hand and the platinum ring gleamed under the light, drawing the attention of everyone watching. Elena's mouth dropped open, but no words came out. Marcus stood up slowly, his eyes wide with disbelief. “That's…that's him?” Victoria’s phone slipped from her hands, hitting the floor with a sharp c***k. On every screen, Alexander looked straight into the camera, like he could see them. “Some people,” he continued, “...are about to learn what pain really feels like.” The moment he said those words, the feed suddenly faded to black.
