“Stepmother, what’s wrong?” Brielle demanded as they entered the house, she was holding a small piece of paper and Brielle could’ve sworn it was a cheque. “Nothing is wrong, you’re going to help out with some experiment and would be back in a month’s time” She replied casually and Taya shrieked. “Mom! Why would you want her to go for a month, Dad isn’t even aware...” Taya defended but Brielle stood there, numb. She didn’t know what to feel, sad that her stepmother whom she had served for years was selling her off. Sad for what her fate would be in the hands of a grumpy handsome Greek god who looked down on her. Or happy that she would be very close to her handsome clone, the thought sent tingles down her spine and if she wasn’t so sad about leaving Taya, she would’ve danced around happily. She felt happy that she was getting a breathing space and living the shackles of her stepmother, sad that she was going to leave her best and only friend. Sad that she didn’t know what would become of her if she stayed with a grumpy clone, she didn’t know anything about him. What made her eyes water was that her stepmother was quick to sell her off without having any idea about his background. She was only swayed by his money... She thought about her father, he was in a faraway city, working his ass off so his greedy wife could live the life she wanted. How would he feel when he finds out that his daughter has been sold? She wished she could just run away from everything, the pain, hurt, sadness and joy. “Your dad would understand that it’s for the best, it’s not like she isn’t coming back, she would return soon. Stop bothering me already” Eleanor snapped. “Mom! Who would do the chores? Wash my clothes, cook and go to the market! I can’t do such strenuous activities, I’ll die” Riley wailed and Taya shook her head. “But why does he want her? I thought he was my husband! I want him!” “My poor darling, I’m sure we would work something out, mama wouldn’t let anything happen to you” Eleanor petted Riley who was sulking like a baby. “Don’t just stand there, get your clothes and leave, do not delay” Eleanor instructed and with heavy legs, Brielle walked to the store she called room. She had fallen in love with the coziness and warmth of her tiny room, she stared at all her drawings, tears building up in her eyes as memories flooded her head. “Don’t cry, I’ll pester Dad to come get you” Taya promised, cleaning Brielle's tears. Together they packed the little things into a small backpack. She stared at the heavy book in front of her, her father had given it to her but she was confused because it was blank and because words were carved on the cover. “You can keep this, please keep this book very safe for me, I’ll come back to get it” Brielle replied, passing a small music box that she had cherished right from childhood and the book. “Thank you so much, I promise not to let anyone tamper with any of your belongings” Tears streaming down her eyes, she hugged the only person who cared about her tightly, not wanting to part ways, her only sister and true friend. “Brielle, get down here now!” Eleanor yelled and wiping her tears, she walked outside. She walked past Eleanor who was filling her nails and looking unbothered, Riley who was lamenting about who would cook and do the chores while Taya sobbed loudly. Heaving a sigh, she glanced back at the house where she had grown but never had the chance to call a home and made the almost impossible walk to her master. Nikolas sat in the car, gazing at her intently, he hated himself for making her sad, he just didn’t have any option. He couldn’t bear to leave her, seeing the way her family mistreated her... He felt the need to be beside her and protect her. He shouldn’t be concerned with this human but he just couldn’t get her off his mind. He wondered if taking her to Colchis was the best idea, he couldn’t remain on earth and he had nobody to give her to. He hoped nobody would find out about what he was planning to do, he would be facing his death if word got out that a human was brought into Colchis. “Are you gonna continue sulking? I don’t see why you’re sad, you should be happy that you’re leaving them” He mumbled and she sniffed. “That was where I grew up, spent my whole life... Saying goodbye to something you’re accustomed to hurting the most and to make matters worse, I don’t know what lies ahead” She choked and he patted her hair gently. “They mistreat you, Eleanor was quick to sell you for $2.3 million, stop feeling sad” “And you wouldn’t? What assurance do I have that when I get to your place, I wouldn’t be treated the same way?” She retorted. “My house... the place I call home, you would be free... we don’t treat humans like trash” He whispered, staring at her shiny eyes. “Where do you live?” She demanded. “Colchis...” “Where is that? I’ve never heard of a place like that” “You would get to know it soon, you’re in for a big surprise. First we need to get you clothes” “What’s wrong with mine? Step mother said I’ll be returning after a month, is that true?” She requested, her eyes boring into his and he broke eye contact, turning aside. “You can visit your family whenever you want, I wouldn’t keep you away from them” “What type of dress do you wanna get, I have a few dresses in my bag, you can check it out” “We need new clothing for you, you can’t follow me dressed that way” “What's wrong with my clothes? Why do you care so much about what I wear?” She complained and he furrowed his smooth brows. How would she dress shabbily in his house?. “No... that’s the rule and it’s final, you’re going for an important task...” His steelhard voice made her quiver with fear and excitement. “You still haven’t told me your name, what should I call you” “Master, I want utmost respect from you, I wouldn’t condone any form of disrespect and you are to bow your head whenever I speak to you, is that clear?” He demanded and she scoffed, her lips curled. “Yes, master, anything for you master. I’ll never disrespect you, master, I’ll always bow before you master” She mocked, bowing curtly and he growled.
