Chapter 9: The great pretender

The car ride to the Fitzgerald mansion was silent. After the incident between Blane and his stepfather, he never speaks a word. Knight didn't bother to ask him again. He knew that Blane was upset from his stepfather's words and he was not going to bother him.

Even if it's only for tonight.

Before everything happened, Knight was on his way to the elevator when two people were coming down the hall. The one was begging the older one while the older one was fuming in anger. At first, he didn't care because it was not his business, but when he heard a familiar name being mentioned, he came to a halt. He was about to enter the elevator when he heard Blane’s name.

He turned around to eye the two people and they were precisely walking directly to Blane’s apartment door. He furrowed his brow because the older one was really angry. It looks like if he sees Blane right now, he would punch him and beat him.

… and Knight wouldn’t let that happen.

Blane was pregnant, he was carrying his child. He can’t let someone hit the mother of his child. He slowly walked back and eavesdropped on everything. He was yelling at Blane.

I swear, if this old bastard put a finger on Blane, may God forgive me for what I’m about to do,

“Now I know why you left. Is it because you sleep around and w*****g yourself?” he started.

Blane defended himself as soon as possible.

What the hell? Who is this man?

“Omegas like you can’t help but be a slut. Now that you got yourself pregnant, I assume you can take good care of yourself now. What I’m doing here is I want you to pay everything,” he demanded as if he owned Blane's life.

“P-Pay what?”

Knight softened when he heard his voice. It was a cracked and broken voice. He was crying already.

“I want you to pay me everything that I spent. Since the day you stayed with us, under my roof,”

“Dad, stop it, let’s go. This is so embarrassing,” the woman beside the old man said, pissed off.

“Keep this in mind, the child that you carry will be like you. A useless nothing but a toy that alphas play with. That’s what omegas role in this world. Nothing but a slut,”

Those words made Knight’s hand turn cold. He wanted to punch the guy's mouth for what he said. Dragging his child is unacceptable. He wanted to go and beat him to death but he doesn’t want Blane to see it.

“I said let’s go!”

The woman pulled him and Knight pretended to lean on the door, hands on the doorknob so it looks like he just got out of his apartment. He looked him in the eye to see what he looks like so he can investigate him. He may not beat him for those words, at least he can do anything to make him suffer like getting fired from his job or what.

Blane didn’t see him because he closed his door as soon as they left. He just waited that the two people who ambushed his apartment to hop on the elevator before knocking on his door again.

As they’re gone, Knight walked into Blane’s room and knocked on his door. He was glad that Blane opened it again but he broke him seeing that the younger was trying to keep his tears from falling. He still noticed that he just cried but eventually, he wiped them off.

Knight wanted to ask who that person is but he knows that Blane wouldn’t tell him anything. He will just let it slide for now.

Knight didn’t leave after that. He just stayed in the living area while waiting for Blane to finish. He never said a thing as well as the small omega. They just pretend like they don’t know each other and mind their own business.

Once Blane was finished, he walked into the living room where Knight is to notify him that he was done and he was ready to leave. Knight got the hint and he stood up from the couch and went to the door, waiting for Blane to lock it safe.

Fast forward, they both arrived at the Fitzgerald mansion. They both didn’t say a word during the car ride. Knight wasn’t ready for questioning him and Blane wasn’t in the mood for a talk but he had no choice but to put a smile on his face to light up the mood in front of Knight and Krys’ parents.

Knight entered the mansion with Blane behind him.

Knight noticed that his pregnant omega wasn’t comfortable so he held his hand and they both walk to the backyard where the dinner will be held. It’s not only their parents but their whole family.

A welcoming for Blane, perhaps.

“Welcome!” one of Knight’s aunts greeted and all of the attention went to them, “Hello darling. My brother Will was right. You are beautiful. Knight made the right decision of choosing you,” she added as she sip the glass of champagne.

Blane was shocked and confuse about what she just told him while for Knight it wasn’t foreign to him.

Knight’s parents told everybody that he will be getting married because he already found the one that he wanted to marry and not because he got an omega pregnant.

They all lie to keep the family image.

“Come with me. I will introduce you to the family,” Knight whispered into Blane’s ear giving the omega a shiver to his spine. It was hot and sexy.

Although he knew that this was just for a show.

Knight introduces Blane to each of his aunts and uncles and that he will be getting married sooner. Soon then, Blane realized that the dinner party wasn’t just an ordinary dinner with wine and steak but it was an engagement party.

Blane wasn’t ready for any kind of this but he was still grateful because even if he was confused and there were a lot of things going on inside his head, Knight managed to tell him the whole truth. He explained that if he told him about the engagement party sooner, Blane wouldn’t agree on going to the Fitzgerald mansion.

As for Knight, he was glad that the truth came out in his mouth and not in the mouth of his stepbrother. He was also glad that Krys kept his mouth shut and didn’t say a word about this on Blane.

Looks like baby steps toward getting close to his fiance.
