My boss's possession

First day

Emma P.O.V.

I was woken by the continuous ringing of my phone and saw the time and cursed myself for carelessness. Today is the first day of work and I don't want to be late. Lara's name appeared on my phone and I immediately answered. "Good morning Lara", I said.

"Dont tell me that you just woke up", she asked me in a worried tone. I was quiet for sometime. "You know, my dad is very punctual. Please get in a hurry and reach the office. I don't want you to be late on your first day of work", she told me in a concerned way. "Dont worry Lara, I was on time, I promised", I replied to her and hung up. I had no time to make breakfast for myself, so I took a shower and got ready in Formals and went to the office by bike. Thankfully, I was on time and ran to the fourth floor and greeted his secretary. "Good morning Sushi", I said happily. "Morning Ms. Smith, take this file and start finding errors in this", she replied in a cold tone. I took files from her cabin and moved towards my cubicle and started working. After an hour, my stomach started rumbling. So I decided to get something. I went to the canteen and ordered a hamburger and coffee. Once I finished this and was about to turn to the other side, I saw Josh. He was my friend at a diner and after sometime he resigned. He was taking on his phone so he didn't notice me. After throwing my trash in the bin, I moved toward him and tapped his shoulder. "Hi Josh", I said to him. He startled and greeted me in a low tone. " What happened , you didn't tell me that you work here", I said. "I joined two months back, you told me how was you study going on", He asked. He doesn't know about my problem, as I don't like people giving me sympathy looks . "Today is my first day, I want to gain some experience. That is why I left studying for sometime", I lied to him. Thankfully, he didn't drag this question. "I am shocked how can they hire you", He said to me questingly. "Come again", I replied to him confusingly. "Sorry Emma, but I had an information that Mr.Parker didn't make enough profit and planing to do mass layoff", he told me in worried tone. I widened my eyes after his confession and before I asked a question, suddenly his phone started vibrating. "Please excuse", he said to me and left before taking his call. Suddenly, I felt that somebody poured cold water on me. I have to ask him whether he is joking or not. I thought and ran towards him. I searched for him and found him in the parking area. I gave him space and after he cut a call, I immediately ran to him. But I saw him crying. "Hey what happened, why are you crying", I asked him worryingly. "It's about my wife", he replied. I know he had some problems with his wife. When he worked with me at a diner his wife always fought with him because he was not making enough money. "Why don't you leave her, don't waste your time on her and get divorced", I said to him. "Emma, I love her, How can I leave her like this", he replied. I know he loves his wife dearly, but his wife only wants money and fights with him. I even saw her with some other guy, but I didn't want to break his heart so I kept quiet. I don't know why people are so blind in love that they never understand to the difference between a relationship and a toxic relationship.

"Josh, don't worry, give her sometime", I said to him. He nodded and suddenly I felt someone was behind me and when I turned, none was there. "Emma, please don't mind, but I have to go", he said to me and ran from there.

I went back to my cubicle and resumed my work. Once again, my mind was consumed by the thought of Josh's words.
