Chapter 26“Can I talk to you for a minute?” Ed’s voice sounded calm, catching Jayden as she turned to hang her coat in the closet. She stared through the window at the brick wall belonging to the building next door for a prolonged moment, before turning and holding her hand out towards her visitor’s chair. With a polite smile, Ed closed the door behind him and sat. “Please, may I speak first?” Jayden asked, her tone guarded and closed. Ed nodded and leaned forward. “Of course,” he replied. “I quit,” Jayden said with a tight little smile. “Somehow Brian found out about my past and is threatening to tell everyone. I’ve spent the last decade avoiding sympathy and questions, so I quit. I’ll leave today.” Ed blinked and he c****d his head. “Can you just run that by me again?” he asked. Jay
