CHAPTER 7

1075 Words
I was too far away to hear what he said and I couldn't care less. The events of today were playing in circles in my head, but I only tried to focus on one. I was furiously walking into the forest that was near our campus and my head was spinning with a million thoughts. Some of them were stronger than the others and the more they clenched their claws into my head the more painful was the answer I wanted to desperately refute. It doesn’t matter how many times I ask why. The painful answer will never change and that’s what is tearing me apart right now. But maybe it’s all my fault for letting someone get to me closer than needed. If not for that, I wouldn’t be in this messy situation. That’s why I need to get myself together. I don’t need this. Especially when I am so close and I absolutely can’t afford to be unfocused. Not right now. My thoughts were getting the best of me once again as I was lost in them when all of a sudden something thorned slapped me across the face. I knew that blood was running down from my cheek even before I could feel it. The iron-smelling liquid slowly rolled down and dropped on the exposed spot of my body. The smell made me feel uneasy for some unknown reason. It's not like it was the first time that I smelled it. This time there was something weird though. Something was very different and not in a good way. When I looked down, the blood seemed more like black than red on my slightly tanned skin. I touched my cheek pretty slowly to check the damage when suddenly I felt a pang and, before I knew it, my head was spinning. The last thing I saw was a white flash of light when my body gave up and collapsed onto the ground. It was like I was knocked off just for a second because I opened my eyes right after. I had to blink a few times, but my eyesight was a little bit blurry and my face was still on the ground. When I tried to get up with the help of my hands, I hardly collapsed back to the ground again. I tried it once more, while this time I rested my hands hard on the ground and when I felt the weakness building up in my body, I gritted my teeth and bounced hard from the ground. This time I was successful. My hand automatically fired at my left cheek, which was burning with pain, yet when I touched it there was no sign of scar or blood. It was untouched. How was that even possible? I know for sure it was there just seconds before. My whole body still ached from some kind of pain, which was very weird because I could tell that I wasn't injured at all. When I tried to look around, I heard weird noises coming from a long distance. For some unknown reason, I always had this special ability when it came to the senses, not only because I was a werewolf. When I was fifteen, I started to notice the changes. My senses started to get way more sensitive than theirs. Which was obviously my biggest benefit. The sounds were getting louder and louder when my head automatically turned to the side where they were coming from. The more close they were, the more sure I was what it was and I couldn't believe my own ears. Was my head playing games with me or was it my senses that tried to fool me? I instinctivelly ducked behind the bushes that were in front of me and sharpened my senses even more. When I finally saw what I first heard, I couldn't believe my own eyes. Right in front of them was a little girl. She couldn't be older than a six-year-old child. Somehow she looked familiar to me but I just couldn't remember from where I knew her. Just then, I realized that she was not only covered in blood and dirt but she was also running from someone or something. All of a sudden, I heard more sounds. Only this time they were on the other way from her. What the hell was happening? Why was she running from them? Did they want to hurt her? I felt like my thoughts were about to explode when that horrible pang of pain hit me once again, only this time it felt more like someone else's pain and I realized what had happened. That little girl tripped and fell to the ground when the horrible smell of iron bumped into my nose again. I knew she was hurt in an instant. It all played in front of my eyes like it was in slow motion. I wanted to run to her and help her immediately but when I tried to move my feet I couldn't.. I tried it again and again, but nothing happened. It was like they were glued to the ground. I felt like I was at my wits' end when the almost inaudible steps came from nowhere and bent down to the girl. I was in awe. The person was covered in shadows and no matter how hard I tried to capture the features of the figure or the face, I failed every time. I felt a rush of nausea from the fact that he could hurt her and all I could do was stand aside and do nothing. It reminded me of something. Like I had already experienced this. No! I won't allow that. I need to do something this time. Anything. Even in my thoughts I felt so helpless like never. I forced my body to move with all the strength that was left in me, but nothing happened. It was too late anyway, because the shadows reached out to her already. I wanted to scream at it that it should leave her alone but my throat was unable to utter a sound. "Kellilah!" A distant yet powerful voice screamed. "Kellilah." The voice said my name again when I finally focused and looked in front of me. The shock I was in was unspeakable. It was the shadow that was saying it and this time I could see its eyes because they were now fully focused on mine.
