Colt had fallen asleep in his spot on the couch awhile ago. I tried to sleep but the adrenaline of just being here and knowing the things I knew now, kept me from doing so. The sun was starting to rise now too so there was really no way sleep would be a thing happening today.
Maybe tonight.
I moved from my side of the couch to be next to Colton.
The fire had gone out some hours ago and now the house was freezing. Luckily for me, I found a blanket ladder off to the side of the room and was now huddling for warmth inside of its Sherpa softness.
I crawled into the small space between him and the back of the couch and laid my head on his chest before wrapping us both up in the blanket. He must have been faking sleep, either that or I somehow woke him up because he wrapped his arms around my waist, interlocking his fingers after doing so.
"You're awake?" I asked quietly.
"Mhm."
I nuzzled my body closer to him, his warmth radiating something fierce. This position was strangely comforting given that I had practically seen him murder his brother and heard him likely kill others only a few hours ago. "I'll stay for awhile but I want to go home eventually," I said the words and left no room for him to debate them.
He groaned out frustratedly, "We'll talk about it later. Let me sleep."

I felt so out of place right now and it wasn't for the obvious reason of being a human amongst a pack of rabid wolves. No, I was still very much in my pajamas while everyone else was already dressed. I had on a pair of checkered wool pants that were a little too big for me and Colton gave me one of his sweatshirts so I didn't freeze to death as we ate breakfast with everyone outside.
I was still very much freezing though so I had the hood over my head and the sleeves covering my hands as I shivered uncontrollably. I couldn't even keep the damn fork still as I tried to eat the breakfast scramble.
No one else appeared to be bothered by the weather at all as they joked and laughed with each other, even Colt who was seated to my right seemed in higher spirits today.
I caught an older man staring at me, almost looking like he was judging me for being a normal person and not being able to regulate a steady body temp in this weather, "We're going to have to start a fire for the youngling over here," he said through a hearty laugh. "Poor girl won't stop shaking."
I deadpanned at his comment and then questioned why there wasn't a fire going in the first place. Was that only a night time thing or something?
Colt looked down at me before setting his own fork back on his paper plate. He didn't say anything to me but carried on a conversation with some other guy as he wrapped an arm around my frigid body, pulling me into his warmth.
Everyone was staring at me now.
"Do you want to go inside?" Colt asked and I hurriedly nodded, rising to my feet quicker than he could even process my response.
I waited for what seemed like forever for him to wrap up his conversation and get up with me.
I thought we would be going into the big house from last night but he really made me walk all the way back to his little home secluded in the deepest part of the forest. I pushed the door open and made a beeline for the couch after kicking my shoes off at the door. My blanket was still a little warm, just enough for me to get comfortable. I threw my arms up and made little grabby motions with my hands at Colt as he sat down on the other end of the sofa.
He just sat there and laughed at me so I got up and crawled over to him.
I stood on my knees, somewhat level with him now as I daringly put my hand on the back of his head, the other one I let fall loosely at his side.
I didn't let myself talk me out of this decision as I slowly closed the gap between us, my frozen lips taking over his unfairly warm ones. It sent tingles down my spine in the best way possible, my whole body electrified.
He grabbed the backs of my thighs and pulled me into a straddling position on his lap without breaking our kiss. I didn't know how far I wanted to take this but I was enjoying the moment so I was going to let the wind take me where it wanted to go and if that was in Colton's bed, then so be it.
He slid his hands under my sweatshirt, slowly making their way to my breasts before gently cupping them. I let out a little moan and threw my head back as he rolled my n*****s in between his thumb and index fingers, while kissing my neck wildly.
Fuck, this was starting to get spicy.
He grabbed the hem of my sweatshirt and pulled it over my head, leaving me in my body hugging Henley top. I was nipping through the fabric really hard right now, it was almost ridiculous.
I threw myself off of Colt's lap, my back hitting the soft cushions of the sofa as he hovered over top of me.
Well.
I wasn't cold anymore.
Our lips had only just met again when the front door flew open, slamming against the wall behind it. Colt shot up and I instinctively followed suit, our chests pressed against each other.
Felicity and some blonde little girl around the same age, stood there staring at us.
"Colton!" Felicity screamed, her little hands balled into fists at her side as she stomped around to be in front of us. Colt and I quickly separated and left plenty of space between us like two rowdy teens who just got caught by their parents.
Or in this case, baby sister.
I couldn't help but notice that he grabbed the blanket and threw it over his lap as I suppressed a laugh. "What, City?"
"Why did you hurt, Forrest?" She fought back tears as she ran up and smacked him on the knee as hard as she could. He didn't seem fazed by it at all and that only upset her more as she let out one really loud scream. "When's daddy coming home?"
I looked between her and Colt quickly, wondering why nobody had told her. I wasn't even apart of this group, let alone the family and I had known.
"My mommy said you're our new Alpha," the other girl timidly came around to stand next to Felicity now.
Felicity looked at Colton, confused and now terribly sad while he just seemed at a complete loss for words. "I...am," he said the words slowly, like he wasn't very proud of them. I didn't think it was that he wasn't proud, I think it was more of him not being very happy with the circumstances.
I watched as the tears swelled in her big green eyes and she slowly collapsed onto the empty cushion between Colt and I. He started to rub her back as she sobbed uncontrollably into the suede fabric and that's how it stayed for hours.

It was disgustingly obvious how out of place I was here. I wanted to go home or curl up in a ball somewhere away from everyone else and just do nothing for a second.
We were in what I had learned was the pack house and when I say we, I mean pretty much everyone that lived here in NightStar Summit. I did, however, notice an extreme lack of children though but I wasn't complaining about that at all.
I sat smushed in the corner of the sofa with some random teenage boy so close he was basically on top of me. A couch that should have fit four people comfortably was now hosting at least 7 and I was very uncomfortable with that.
They talked amongst themselves as if they haven't seen each other in forever, spewing the latest gossip and talking about their day as another group played Cards Against Humanity on the floor. I didn't have anyone to talk to and no one was in a hurry to get to know me at all. Why was I even here?
And where was Sadie? I hadn't seen her at all today.
I knew Mrs. Marz was going to be in the kitchen so I got up and quickly maneuvered around the people to get to the also very crowded kitchen. She was leaning against the countertop, helping two grade school aged children with their homework papers.
She looked up at me and smiled as I walked a little closer. "Hi, Kat. Are you warming up a little more? I felt so bad for you at breakfast."
I nodded my head while offering a smile in return, "Yeah I found a few coats to wear."
"Oh, I'm so glad."
I watched as a few people left the room after eyeing me like some sort of grotesque monster and I was sad to report that that was happening to me a lot today. I wasn't sure what I did to make them look at me like that and I can assure you that I didn't care either. I would be making my great escape soon, I just needed to get Sadie out with me.
"Hey, can I ask you something?" I said.
"Anything."
"Do you know where my friend is? I haven't seen her since last night?"
Maybe she got away without me. Maybe that would have been a good thing.
Mrs. Marz knew the answer to my question but it looked like she wasn't going to tell. My nerves shot through the roof and my mind immediately went to the worst case scenario of her being murdered.
"I'm not sure, Kat and that's the honest truth. She was a traitor to our pack so the consequences of her being here should be very severe but with our new Alpha, I don't know what's going to happen. If it was Ryan, she probably would have been dead but since he's not here and she is your good friend, I don't think you have much to worry about."
Her words made me feel a little better but I still wanted the peace of mind that came with knowing where she was and if she was safe. I couldn't even ask Colt right now because he was off doing his wolf things.
Oh, I hated this.
"Can I walk around?"
"Yes, just don't go into the woods. The hunters aren't very forgiving people."
Noted.
I thanked her and then quickly exited the Pack house.
I had never been given a grand tour of the place so I didn't know what was what and what exactly was going to be off limits. It sounded like I just needed to stay out of the deeper parts of the forest and I would be totally fine.
There was an extremely noticeable lack of people outside, probably because they were all in the pack house goofing off with each other. I bet the cooler night temperatures were too much for even them to handle.
There was still a big fire going though and I wondered why no one was around watching it. Unsupervised flames in the middle of a forest didn't necessarily seem like the best idea to me.
"Kat!"
I snapped my head in the direction of the frail voice. There was a large pole off to the side of the little community, hidden away from everything.
Connor was chained to the bottom of it, looking like he had been beat up far beyond any reasonable recognition. His left eye was swollen shut and purple with some sort of liquid dripping from it, his head looked to be twice it's normal size and he had burn marks around his neck.
I was horrified as he reached his hand out towards me. Slowly, I walked forward but kept a very safe distance from him.
"What happened to you?" I asked while crossing my arms over my chest uncomfortably.
"What do you think happened to me?" He snarled while lunging towards me, the silver collar around his neck restricting him from attacking. "Colton f*****g happened!" He screamed and I all but jumped away, my back hitting the rock hard surface of someone else.
I turned around and came face to face with Noah. He seemed angry as he wrapped an arm around me and started to drag me away from the horror show, "Alright, Kat, come on."
