New Year was not the big event that the family had seen in previous years, but they did hold a party in Pang’s house for the family and any friends who wanted to drop in, as did every family in Baan Suay, and indeed Thailand. After singing the Thai version of Auld Lang Syne, Mike phoned his parents, and he and Soom wished them a Happy New Year so that the peace was maintained.
On Monday, as was her schedule, Soom and Mike went to the clinic for a check up. She and the baby were pronounced well and they confirmed that the most likely date for a natural childbirth was still Tuesday February 14th, six weeks away.
“How certain is it that Shell will be born on the fourteenth, doctor?” asked Mike, thinking about booking time off.
