Unnecessary Stress

1060 Words
Gradually, she remembered what happened, how she had drugged herself to numb her pain, she had been doing a great job keeping it away from her friends but that night she couldn’t take it anymore and took the substance to make her sleep and forget her predicament, though she didn’t know it would take a toll on her body and make her pass out. She had imagined that her pain would be gone, and she would be her vibrant self again by the time she was ready to go to the party. None of her friends knew what was going on with her, she had always been good at keeping things from people around her. She took a glance at Alex to study his mood. She kept wondering when he had come, as he been here all along when the paramedics and vivi brought her in? Or did he just walk in? She took another stare at him but could not read the expression on his face, or could it be that he already knew what was wrong with me? She could only hope he didn’t know anything, so she could pretend everything was fine. It appeared that she had always had unimaginable s****l urges, but anytime she made out with Alex, though he tried in his own way , he just couldn’t satisfy her, and she had been too ashamed to ask Alex for a threesome, the reason why she went ahead to satisfy her urges before it drove her crazy. Alex is a responsible guy. He would never succumb to that kind of thing. She had fallen in love with him because of his personality. Alex noticed she wasn’t saying anything and now she is awake. He said, “I’ll take my leave now, take care of yourself.” Sydney became stunted at his words. How could he be this cruel to leave me in this situation, but she knew better not to provoke him and keep her emotions to herself. But on a second thought she decided to ask questions to be sure of what was going on in his mind. She grabbed his hand as he was about to turn. “Alex, are you mad at me?” Alex’s stare sent daggers to her soul, but she pretended she didn’t see it. He looked at Vivian who quickly turned her gaze from them. “What is it? Why would I be angry? It’s your life, live it the way you want.” Her hand started shaking, she started trembling. “Alex, what have I done wrong to you? Just tell me my offense for goodness’ sake. You just told me you don’t want to see me anymore, at least have the decency to tell me what exactly I did wrong.” Even though Alex felt remorse about the situation she is, he couldn’t bring himself to expose her in her friend’s presence. He does not even know if they are birds of the same feather, or if she’s just the only one that has the issue. Better not to spill the beans, he decided this time around he would tell her offense. “Let’s meet when you are out of the hospital, then we can talk. I’m running late.” He said as he excused himself. He rushed out of the hospital, his heart pounding with worry and guilt. He had meant to stay for a few minutes to check on Sydney and go back to meet Linda. As he was going towards the lobby, he took his phone out to check if he had missed calls or messages from Linda. There were none, he went to where he had parked his car, dread washed over him. His car was nowhere to be found. “No, no, no,” Alex muttered under his breath, his hand shaking as he reached for his phone. A quick call to security confirmed his worst fear. His car had been towed for blocking an ambulance. He quickly went to the security and asked about the whereabouts of his car. He was getting angry at that point. The security man confirmed his worries after he explained his predicament and gave him the information about his car. In a panic, he dialed the number of the towing company, praying they hadn’t taken his car too far. He hasn’t taken his bath, he just brushed his teeth and dashed out of the house, now he is hungry and tired. He explained the situation hurriedly to the towing company, feeling exhausted and just wanted to go home. After about what felt like an eternity, the towing company confirmed that they had his car and provided him with the address of their impound lot. Alex booked a taxi and went to the lot. His thoughts were consumed by guilt. He knew he should have been more careful when he parked, especially in a hospital emergency zone, If I had parked right, I would have avoided all this unnecessary stress, he thought to himself. Finally, he arrived at the impound lot- a dimly lit, fenced-in area filled with rows of cars. Alex hurried to the office, where he was greeted by a stern-looking attendant. “I need to get my car,” Alex blurted out, ignoring the look on the man’s face. It was towed earlier today. The attendant eyed him suspiciously and asked for his identification and payment. After what seemed like an eternity of paperwork and fees, he heaved a sigh of relief when he was given his car. He took out his keys to unlock it, he jumped into the driver's seat and sped off. As he was driving towards his house, he realized he was driving at a high speed and quickly cautioned himself to avoid unnecessary stress. On his way home, he thought of Sydney. How wild can she get? First it’s a threesome, now its drug abuse. Only she knew the things she had done that he didn’t know of. What could be wrong with her? She needs to seek help and speak with a counselor. Come to think of it Sydney is good at disguising and hiding her problems. He pulled over at his house and quickly went upstairs to check on his baby. He would explain everything to her and apologize for his actions. Hopefully she will understand.
