Not worth a breath

(Next day) Storm POV: “Alright everyone, take it from the top, Steel, I need that base to thump a little harder, I wanna feel that pulse in my heart.” Steel nods and we start the song all over again. I sent Zoe a text this morning that we were rehearsing but she’s such a stubborn sleeper. She finally came into the studio below the hotel dressed in baggy sleepwear but looking as beautiful as ever with her wild brown curls, and her laid-back vibe. “Morning.” She whispers as she walks past me and sits behind the drums. Everyone stops playing and waits for me to tell them to take it from the top again. My eyes narrow in on her brown tired ones. “You’re late,” I tell her and she squints her eyes at me. “So I am.” She says in a sassy way that gets me going more than I care to admit. “So, don’t be.” “Get off her ass Storm, she’s not even in the band. She’s doing us a favor.” Grayson says and steel agrees. “Not yet.” I challenge her as I look into her fiery eyes, and she flicks me off with a smirk. Ah, so the cute drummer is sassy lassy in the morning, and not as shy as she normally is throughout the day. Not surprised. “Are we going to play or what boys?” She asks spinning two drum sticks in her hands like a pro. f**k she’s hot. “Alright from the top.” Then we all start playing the song in perfect unison. The lyrics of the song aren’t finished yet, but I like to create the sound first, and wow. It sounds f*****g fantastic. The song has so much soul that you can feel it through your body on a spiritual level. I watch as Zoe gets lost in the beat. And she makes it look easy with all the stick flips and spins, and headbangs. Never missing a single beat. Wow. Then halfway through it, the song becomes more upbeat and powerful and then ending in a soft way. Once we all stopped playing I can’t stop the grin on my face. “Dude, this is going to turn out amazing. Please tell me that was being recorded.” I say and Grayson nods holding up his phone. “Saved it. That was really great.” He says in shock. Buzzkills’s new album is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever played before, while still keeping the buzzkills vibe. “Great work guys, and lady,” I say watching a blush form on Zoe’s pretty face. “We’re still going out later aren’t we?” Jax asks and I nod. “But not until we finish writing the lyrics to the song.” They all groan frustrated except for Zoe who looks determined. “We need a break. I’m going to text Mr. b***r and see if he wants to hang out later too.” Steel says as he walks out of the booth along with the rest of the guys leaving Zoe and me alone. “Mr. b***r?” She asks laughing. “Yeah, it’s just some dude Steel hooks up with whenever we’re in Colorado. Do you um... wanna...” I wag my notebook at her and she nods with a smile. “I would love to help with the lyrics. My mother was a poet and she taught me to write poetry at a young age to help with my depression.” Her eyes go wide for a moment as if she wasn’t expecting to blurt that out loud and sighs. “Sorry, too much information. I’m not as depressed now, so don’t worry.” She says as she walks up to me and takes my notes. She reads over the lyrics but since the lyrics are so s****l she finds it hard to say it out loud and she laughs embarrassed. “Jesus, these lyrics are really hot, almost too hot.” She admits and I chuckle as I take my notes back. “Want me to read it instead?” She nods as her cheeks flush. I pull her towards a nearby couch in the studio and we get comfortable, sitting with just 5 inches between us. I can smell her soft coconut fragrance and smile before reading the lyrics. “Hands sliding up her curves, Lust in her eyes. Music in the air, spreading of her thighs. She rides me to the sky, makes me feel so high. Fingers through my hair, and that beautiful sigh. That girl can have it all. She can have it all. Lost myself tonight, she had me nearly break into a crawl.” “What do you think of it so far?” I ask her a bit nervously. “It’s sexy, but I think you should add a bit of heartbreak to it as well.” “Like?” I ask and she hums as she thinks about it. “Frantic beating of my heart, hummingbirds wings. When that girl says goodbye. I feel a sting. I tell her, she can have it all, as she plays with my heart. But her eyes look into mine as if we’re worlds apart.” “That would probably be better at the end.” She says and I’m shocked she created those lyrics off the top of her head. “s**t, write that down, write that down,” I say excitedly and she giggles as she writes it on the paper. But then I wonder who broke this curly-haired beauty’s heart? The words tumble out of my mouth before I can stop them. “Who was the asshole?” I ask her and she looks at me sadly before shakes her head. “He’s not worth my breath.” She says softly as her eyes drop to my lips momentarily then she hands me back my notebook. “Damn. That bad huh? I know the feeling.” I tell her and she sighs frustrated. “That mother fucker cheated on me twice. When I went to his apartment I knew he was with another woman. I knocked on his door angrily, and he stepped out with his hair a mess and his boxers hanging low before smiling and caressing my face. I hadn’t realized he was smearing that bitches juices all over my face until I smelled it as he smeared it over my lips.” My fist clenched so hard they scrunched the paper and my blood boils. “What a s**t bag. Please tell me you kicked him hard in the balls.” She shakes her head. “He slammed the door in my face, and I just left. But the next day I bought some p***y soap, and attached a note to it saying; this is for your new hoe, make sure she uses it every day because she’s smelling a bit rank.” I laughed so hard that my sides hurt. “I knew you were a savage,” I tell her and she shrugs. “Takes one to know one. Anyways I should probably get back to my soft pillow.” She says as she stands and I shake my head in disbelief. “You would rather spend time with a pillow than with me, curls?” She laughs. “Mr. Pillow won’t get me into trouble, you, on the other hand, are the prime definition of trouble.” “Oh? How so?” I ask her as I lean back casually. Her eyes skim up and down my body in a way that makes my breathing uneven. Her gaze is hot, heating me from the inside out. “Well for starters, you are very handsome, have a nice voice, play guitar, and piano very well.” I smirk at her and she blushes. She’s so brave with her words but other times she’s shy. “So you’re saying I’m good with my hands, Curls?” She groans frustrated. “And that damn mouth of yours...” she starts saying abruptly but doesn’t finish. My c**k twitches in my jeans delighted with her tone, and I place my notepad on my lap to hide it. “What about it?” I stare at her beautiful plump lips and they part under my gaze. Damn it. Damn her. “It’s clean with your pearly whites, but it’s as dirty as your mind. So yeah. I think I’m going to stick to my pillow.” I shake my head. “And your mouth is a temptation for more reasons than one, Zoe.” She blinks and looks away, I can tell she’s feeling a bit regretful. “We shouldn’t be having this conversation. I shouldn’t be flirting with you, for f**k sake. You’re my boss. I’m so sorry.” I sigh and shake my head. “No need to apologize. Nothing happened right?” But something did happen. And that something is the fact that I’m madly attracted to Zoe. Grayson takes that time to burst through the door as if he’s looking for something and grabs the phone he left on the ground before looking up and seeing Zoe and me on the couch. He looks at us with a grin, and I glare at him, knowing what he’s about to say. “Well don’t you two look cozy? Do y’all want me to get you some blankets? Maybe dim the lights a little? Set up the projector...” “f**k off Grayson.” I flick him off and he chuckles. Zoe moves further away from me embarrassed. “Noth... nothing is going on here. I was just helping him with the song.” She says a bit nervously and Grayson winks at her. “I was only teasing, Zoe.”
