Victoria winced as the cold shower washed her hair. Auntie Ima was recording Zoey as she washed her mother's hair with the shampoo she created by herself. It gave her the effects she wanted. She smiled with satisfaction.
While Aunty Ima and Zoey celebrated their success, Victoria dried her hair with a towel and walked out to the living room to meet Grace who was on the phone call.
Grace ended the call and rose on her feet immediately Victoria stepped in. Victoria signaled for her to sit.
“Where were we?” Victoria asked. Her voice is calm and firm. A sharp contrast from the woman who was chatting with her daughter.
“The foreign reports ate up. Double profit especially in Thamesmead. Cleopatra had remitted our dividends. Barrister Lux of the Cleopatra group of companies called in to notify on the new pitched product. Its test run market delivered seventy-five percent profit.”
Victoria was silent. That is not what the accountant, Mr. Usen, mentioned during their private meeting. He said the profit was seventy percent.
“Who is in charge of the business development for this product?”
“Mr. Liam Livingston, ma'am “
“Can I have the minutes of the last meeting at Cleopatra's?”
“Yes, ma'am.” Grace forwarded the minutes to her mail. Victoria read through it.
“Set up a meeting with the HBD and send me the run down of financial audits for the last five years.” Victoria said and felt her stomach grumble. She was hungry.
Grace noticed her. She added softly, “I also have to add. You have a new Executive Assistant assigned to you.”
“Executive what?!” Victoria scoffed, “Assigned by who?”
“The board chairman. He is also to report to him directly.” Grace said carefully.
Victoria was silent. She was trying to process the information. She scoffed quietly. What is her father up to? A spy during this election? Is he worried she will win again?
She had pressed her way through this company without his help. Worked tirelessly to replace him as the CEO by merit. Changed her name and other annexed companies to her mother's maiden name. Her mother died from his negligence. She has successfully made him an enemy that he is.
His time is up and he is doing everything to hold on to his legacy this time. By playing dirty? Isn't it this legacy that destroyed their family? He always played dirty. He never casted his vote for her during the internal regulation. That wasn't a surprise. She sighed and returned to read her minutes.
“One last thing, ma-” Grace began dreading every minute that she was the one to break this news.
“What?!” Victoria thundered. She hates to be interrupted when she is at work.
“He is the-” Grace began carefully but the door bell rang. Grace looked visibly confused now, “I think he is here.”
Victoria shrugged, “Why?!”
“He was to start with immediate effect.”
“That's not a bother. Let him in so that we can discuss the merger with the Cleopatra”
Grace whimpered and flinched. She ran to the door. This is going to be one hell of a ride. She opened the door to face someone whom everyone feared. The arrogant son of their late boss.
*******””
Victoria would have sworn that Grace had fainted at the door or something happened. There was grave silence and she was curious to know what was going on.
Grace wasn't faint at heart and her personal assistant wouldn't be the one to silence her, would she? Or was it a he?
She went back to her minutes of meeting. It was curiosity that made her glance up when footsteps entered.
The hazel eyes undid her for a second.
A white assistant? She held her breath. His face definitely looked familiar. He was tall. Rogued looking with his open necked shirt. Firm and muscular body. A man in his late thirties. More like a bodyguard than an assistant. Good one dad, she scoffed. She didn't spare him a thought of it as she returned to her iPad.
