A tall man dressed in a grey fitted suit with brown long hair and black eyes stood at the entrance of the Shire mansion in the cold night. His eyes piercing through the environment for any unusual sign. "What is bothering you dear" Kathy a slender woman with tanned skin touched him from behind, "I don't know what brother is scheming"James replied as the fear on his face became evident. "That's true, he must be planning something very devious" Kathy sighed, James had saved them before from his wrath but that didn't mean he won't come back. If there was anything Edward was good at, then it would be never backing down in a fight. "And the fact that I can't figure out what he is plotting is frustrating" James replied, It's been fine years since James returned back to Barcelona and fought against his brother leading to his exile. But he never felt at ease with his brother being silent for those years. "He was so mad at us as he roared leaving the house" Kathy said rubbing her arms to stop herself from shivering, "Why didn't father give him what he wanted" James pulled off his jacket and covered her, Edward wouldn't act irrationally unless he was triggered by something or someone. "Your brother is ill, we just couldn't do that" Kathy replied, "Being sick is not enough reasons to justify his actions" James clenched his fist, when he remembered what Edward did. "You know, sometimes at night I still think of what he did to me and I get scared" Kathy stare at the beautiful scenery in front of her, a firefly passed in front of her and she reached out to catch it but missed. "You don't need to anymore, I am here,I will protect you" James assured her. He wasn't going anymore until he was sure that they were safe. Only then would he return back to Rome. "Thank you Son, having you back has brought peace to our family" She gave him a warm and pleasant smile. "I shouldn't have left" he regretted ever listening to his brother and hiding from his family. "Then you wouldn't be strong as you are, you would still be lurking in your brother's shadow" Kathy replied. James had always relied on his older brother for everything because of the love he had for him. So when Edward sent him away, it devastated him. "I had prayed for a day that you would learn to stand on your own. But when my prayer was answered, you had to go away" she sat on the stairs and gestured for him to do same. "Hmm" "I can only thank Delvin for turning you into a strong young man" She looked at him, she was proud of who he had become. "Where is father?" he asked curious as he hadn't seen him throughout the day, "You know where. Now that you are around, he just finds a corner and relaxes for the whole day. This was something he couldn't do when Edward your brother was in charge" Kathy teased, "He really did put fear in you guys" James frowned, "You should have seen us" Kathy laughed recalling the past events. She leaned on him and gazed at the stars, "I have my son back, what more do I need. I trust that you would take care of us and protect us like how you protected Dylan. By the way, how was your life in Rome?" She suddenly asked, "Interesting" he replied, "I didn't ask for one word, I know you maybe a man of very little words but I will need details young man" she stressed out, "I thought so. After Delvin died, Dylan went through thick and thin but he is okay now" James narrated in his little way, "That's it" she squeezed her face questioning him, "Yes" he nodded. "Okay let me rephrase my sentence. How was your love life in Rome?" she inquired, "It's a long story" he looked away, "I'm listening" she kept a serious face to hear what happened to him, "I have no one" he blurted, "Well that's a shock. I thought you would learn a thing or two in Rome, but no, you are still the same as before. Always scared of love because of what your brother did to you" She poked his chest, "Why don't you go get some rest" he was dieing to be free from her, "I am already leaving" Kathy brushed his hair backwards and proceeded back into the house. Kathy's question reminded him of August, they left off on the wrong foot and till now he did nothing to rectify it. As much as he regretted hurting her, he just couldn't face her. He had blocked himself from the social things happening around to avoid seeing her. "It was better this way" he said to himself. He wanted to concentrate solely on his family. "What are you up to Edward" he muttered. James had a weird feeling that something bad was going to happen and he wouldn't be able to do anything about it. The feeling alone was making him uneasy and anxious and the wait was killing him. He was ready to do anything just to figure out what Edward was planning against them. Watching him from a distance was Edward, "Enjoy while you can, your days are numbered" He hated them so much for what they had done to him even though they were his family. To him, their acts were unforgivable and he was going to may them pay. .
