Chapter 29

Bruce

It’s time for business, no more messing around. I have waited long enough and finally gotten the details I needed to start my investigation and hopefully a resolution. Even though I’m not an alpha, I do have my right hand man, Ryan. He is a loyal and trusted servant but sometimes a close friend too.

I filled him up with details on my mate’s case as we’re in the car heading towards the Raydiant Pack. I need to get answers and I want them first hand immediately. I couldn’t wait a day longer. Ryan agreed thoroughly with me. That bastard was so daring to go against the goddess' blessing.

This morning’s meeting was to brief Loulou that she will be joining a new team. She has been in the fulfilment department for a few months already. It’s time for her to learn more. I’ve already discussed this issue with Lilian yesterday and she will be guiding Lou on these new things for today. I’m not sure how long this visit to the Raydiant pack will take, therefore I told my mate to not cook my dinner.

Ryan has informed the Raydiant pack on my visit but didn’t inform them what it was about. When we reached the Raydiant pack borders, the alpha, Michael, was there with his sons to greet us. He escorted us to the main pack houses and I suggested that we have something to discuss with him. He nodded and showed us to his office.

In the office:

Bruce: Do you know about a pack member named Louisiana ?

Micheal: Louisseena ?

Bruce: Yes, Louisiana.

Micheal: LouisSEEEna. Yes, she is my niece.

Bruce raised an eyebrow, surprised at his response. Loulou was the alpha’s niece. That was something he didn’t know. He realized at this point that he knew so little about her background. He rushed here without doing any background checks about here. This will be the starting point he thought.

Bruce: I see. She’s your niece.

Micheal: What about her, your highness? Did she do something wrong? I’m so sorry if she did. You need to forgive that child. She has been through a lot. If she has done anything to anger you, please hold me responsible. I will be responsible for her.

Micheal was submitting to the prince at once.

Bruce: Tell me more about her. What did she go through for her to ‘cause trouble’ to me?

Micheal held back his lips as in thinking where to start.

Micheal: You see, she was a true alpha's daughter. Her father was my brother-in-law and our pack’s alpha. But he passed away due to a rogue attack when Nana was 12. My family was the beta and the elders voted us to step up as the alpha. Their family lost the alpha’s privilege just like that. Everything went south for them, for her. You can imagine the shame one might feel.

Bruce was shocked to hear those. He never knew Loulou was an alpha’s daughter. In the shifters world, true alphas are chosen by the goddess, having a strong bloodline. Alpha titles were handed down from generation to generation by blood. An alpha chosen by the goddess will have a strong pack as compared to an alpha that was chosen by himself/herself or their own people.

He guesses it only makes sense. He himself was a lycan prince and the goddess blessed him with a true alpha’s daughter. Not that it mattered to him if Loulou wasn’t an alpha’s daughter. He fell in love the moment her saw it. He fell in love with her not because she is his mate. He fell in love with her because she is her.

Bruce: Did you know she had a mate?

Micheal: Wait what? A mate?

It’s another surprise for Bruce. Loulou had a mate and one that rejected her. Yet nobody knew, not even her alpha.

Micheal: No… she didn’t mention anything about a mate. Was it after she left for the city?

Bruce: No. It was way before. Does she have any other family members here?

Micheal: Yes. Her mother and her brother are still here in our pack. Should I call them?

Bruce: Yes, please do.

Bruce was about to meet Loulou’s mother and brother. He realized Loulou never ever really talk about her family. She never said she misses them or anything when it has been quite some time since she left this land. This is something he has a chance to uncover now since he is here.

Layton came into the alpha’s office and saw the prince. He immediately took a bow and submitted.

Bruce: You’re Louisseena’s brother.

This time Bruce managed to pronounce her name right.

Layton: Yes. What is it that you seek for your highness?

Bruce: Louisseena had a mate while she was still here. Do you know anything about this?

Layton started sweating and was confused. This was the first time he heard anything like this and from someone with so much authority.

Layton: No your highness. I do not know of such things. She… likes to keep to herself most of the time. She doesn’t talk to us.

Bruce: And why is that so? Why doesn’t she talk to you or her mother?

Bruce couldn’t understand this. For him and his family, they always talk. There wasn’t any barrier. There was silence for a while.

Layton: It’s my fault. I should have cared about her more. When our dad died, I was too depressed over the fact that I lost someone close to me. I never thought about Nana missing a fatherly figure. I should have stepped up into that role for her.

Bruce: What about your mother?

Layton: She….

Layton: She is an overbearing person. Alpha Micheal will agree to that about his sister.

Alpha Micheal nodded in the background.

Just then, the door burst open and a lady stormed in.

Lady: Heh. You dare to bad mouth me in front of others. Call me overbearing? You take a good look in front of the mirror yourself. You’re a devil.

Layton: Why can’t you just shut up. You don’t know anything.

Lily; Why should I shut up? I’m her mother but yet she doesn’t want to talk to me. Only know how to tell things to other people but when it comes to your own mother she doesn’t want to talk to. Heh.

Alpha Micheal was softly making shushing noises to try and shut Lily’s mouth. He’s motioning to her that someone great was present in the room.

Lily: I don’t care whether you are the prince or not. I don’t have a daughter like that if she goes around telling bad things about me. I know myself that I did nothing wrong. Heh. She must have left for the border to meet some guys. What a dirty w***e. Heh. Now she went to the city, must be sleeping with all the humans, f*****g around. Heh.

Bruce and Ryan were shocked at this behaviour of this person that calls herself the mother of Louisseena. Alpha Micheal was trying to calm Lily down but she wasn’t having any of it.

Ryan wasn’t having any of this disrespect to the prince or even towards his mate. He shouted at her, “ You will at once submit to the royal prince.” at that, he hit the back of her knee causing her to kneel down on the ground.

Lily scoffed as she hit the ground. She was in tears. You could hear it in her voice that she was clearly hurt. But it wasn’t the way one would think.

Layton: That’s the way she is. Always assuming. Assuming the worst of people. Assuming this, assuming there. She never gave us a chance to …

Lily cuts Layton off.

Lily: Who said I never? I’ll give you a chance now. Heh. You tell me. Tell me now.

Layton took a deep breath.

Layton: There was a time when Nana was young and she hurt herself badly. Tell me what did you do about it?

Lily: I did. I asked her what happened but she wouldn’t tell me.

Layton: NO. I asked you, what did you do about it?

Layton was screaming back at the top of his voice as if screaming back would get the question through his mother’s thick skull. His eyes glowed red with anger. This caught Bruce’s attention at the colour of Layton’s eye. He knew something didn’t sit right here.

Lily: I already said she never told me ! But it must be Thelma. She must have abused her. I kept asking Nana who did it but she wouldn't say. Must be trying to protect Thelma. She doesn't even want to protect her own mother yet protect an outsider.

Layton: NO. YOU. You did nothing. You f*****g did nothing. There she was clearly hurt and the wound wouldn’t stop bleeding but you f*****g did nothing. You never ask if she was alright, you never take her to the pack doctor. You just f*****g left her bleeding and ASSUME it was Thelma. Yet Thelma was the one who got the herbs to heal her. You never f*****g care about us.

Layton was crying badly, He knew all the hurt he faced from his mother and the hurt she gave to his sister. He felt guilty that he never once comforted her.

Bruce had enough of this, enough of this f****d up family. It wasn’t the worst kind of family out there but he agreed this person isn’t fit to be a mother. A mother should be like his mother, always eagerly and patiently waiting to hear stories from her pups. A mother who would blow kisses to your wounds when you fell down even if you heal fast.

Bruce: ENOUGH. I don’t want to see the two of you.

The guards quickly escorted Lilly and Layton out of the office.

Bruce turned to alpha Michael.

Bruce: If I could, can I see Louisseena’s room? And also, I want the information about the summer 28th exchange. I want every single information you have of it. Give me the file by tonight. You will speak about this to no one. Is that clear?
