I don’t sleep much. Every time I close my eyes, I see the note burned into my mind. WE SEE YOU. Three words, black ink on a scrap of paper, but they’re louder than screams. By the time morning comes, my nerves are strung tight. I pull on black leggings and a hoodie, tie my hair back, and try to convince myself that it was just a scare tactic. A bluff. But when I step out of my room, Viktor is already waiting in the hall like a wall of muscle and storm. “You’re not leaving without me.” His voice is rough from lack of sleep. His eyes cut over me, sharp and quick, like he’s checking for wounds that aren’t there. “I was going to class, not a battlefield,” I mutter, brushing past him. “Same thing here.” His footsteps fall heavy at my side, too close. “You’re not walking this campus alone.
