Chapter 2 — First Misunderstanding

294 Words
The next day, school seemed ordinary again — loud, messy, and a little chaotic. But for Mark, everything was in high definition. Alice was already sitting at her desk by the window, sunlight playing on her hair. Alice: Hi. Mark: Hi. Alice: Do you usually come this early? Mark: No. Alice: Me neither. A pause hung between them. It wasn’t awkward — it was quiet, like the calm before a storm in an anime. Alice: Here’s your notebook. Mark: Thanks. Their fingers accidentally brushed for a moment. Both quickly pulled back, hearts racing. Alice: You really draw well. Mark: It’s just a hobby. Alice: Then why hide it? Mark: Otherwise, I’d have to explain why it matters to me. Alice: You don’t have to explain to me. Mark smiled. Her trust felt heavier than a hundred casual chat messages. During class, someone accidentally bumped their desk. Alice looked annoyed. Alice: Hey, watch where you’re going! Mark: Not me! Alice: Maybe, but you’re standing right there! Mark felt a strange warmth inside — a mix of nervousness and… caring? He opened his mouth to explain, but she was already smiling and looking away. Alice: Okay, it’s fine. They both relaxed. The little misunderstanding passed, but left a tiny feeling of closeness. After school, they walked out together. The autumn wind played with fallen leaves, and the city seemed quiet, as if waiting for the next random message. Alice: Have you ever argued with a friend over something small? Mark: Yes, but rarely. Alice: And with a girl? Mark shook his head. Mark: No, never. Alice: Then get ready. I’m easy to upset with words. Mark smiled. He felt that their relationship was only beginning — and even the first little misunderstandings could become sweet memories.
