Chapter 10The pain in my cheek comes first. I try to open my mouth and have to wiggle my jaw until everything snaps back into place. I feel the dried blood on my face where a piece of the ice – the cylinder has actually broken – has cut me just below my eye. The cut itself has already healed, but the blood remains. My first thought is of the hair. If the cylinder has broken, every silky golden strand could be gone by now. Followed on the heels of that thought is the question of how long I have been out. With the number of times Thor has cleaned my clock, I know I can recover fast. As I pick myself up off the white tile floor, bits of strong and sharp ice shower down from my chest into my lap. A tangle of long yellow strands land among the shattered bits, now white rather than clear. The
