Blaze
Another phone call from my aunt gave me a headache as I walked through the airport to head to the car as Diego waited for me. The flight down here was smooth, and I’d talked to Ava briefly on the phone about her day at the center previously.
“You have a responsibility, Blaze.”
“Auntie, Samir is a grown man.”
“He looks up to you.”
“I can’t help you.”
She started in on my cousin having a side baby and what it would do to our family’s legacy. I’d known what my cousin was doing behind the scenes, but I never spoke on it because it wasn’t my business. One time I told him to be honest with Skyler, but he felt he knew better, so I left it alone.
“But I bet you helped that little hussy in California,” she spat.
