I should have known it wouldn’t stay quiet for long.
In a place like this, silence never lasted. Not when there was something—or someone—to tear apart.
And right now…
That someone was me.
⸻
It started during second period.
Everything felt normal—well, as normal as my life could be now. I sat at the back of the class, trying to focus on the lesson, ignoring the occasional whispers and glances.
Then the teacher’s phone buzzed.
She glanced at it briefly.
And everything changed.
Her expression shifted.
Confusion.
Then shock.
Then something else…
Disappointment.
My stomach dropped instantly.
No.
Not again.
She looked up slowly, scanning the room before her eyes landed on me.
“Amara,” she said.
My name sounded heavier than usual.
“Yes, ma,” I replied, my voice steady—but my heart racing.
“Come here.”
The room went silent.
Every single student turned to look at me.
I stood up slowly, my legs feeling like they weighed twice as much. Each step toward the front of the class felt like I was walking into something I couldn’t escape.
“What is this?” she asked, turning her phone toward me.
I froze.
It was the video.
But not the same one.
This one was… clearer.
Longer.
And worse.
My breath caught in my throat.
“I… I don’t—” I started, but the words disappeared.
The room erupted.
Laughter.
Gasps.
Whispers that weren’t even whispers anymore.
“Oh my God, it’s worse than I thought.”
“She’s not even hiding it.”
“Wow… she really is that kind of girl.”
The words hit from every direction.
Sharp.
Relentless.
“Silence!” the teacher snapped, but it didn’t matter.
The damage was already done.
She turned back to me, her expression now cold.
“Do you have any explanation for this?”
My mind spun.
“I didn’t—this isn’t—” I tried, but my voice broke.
Because how do you explain something you don’t even fully understand?
“It looks very clear to me,” she said firmly. “This behavior is unacceptable.”
“I was set up,” I said quickly, desperation rising. “I didn’t choose this. I wasn’t even aware—”
“That’s enough,” she cut in.
The dismissal in her tone hurt more than the accusations.
She didn’t believe me.
None of them did.
“Go back to your seat,” she said.
But there was no kindness in it.
No understanding.
Just judgment.
I turned slowly, walking back while the stares followed me like a spotlight I couldn’t escape.
This time, I didn’t try to ignore them.
Because it was impossible.
They weren’t hiding it anymore.
They were staring openly.
Talking openly.
Judging openly.
And there was nothing I could do to stop it.
⸻
By the time the bell rang, I couldn’t breathe properly.
The classroom felt too small.
Too loud.
Too suffocating.
I rushed out before anyone could stop me, my vision slightly blurred.
But the hallway wasn’t any better.
If anything…
It was worse.
Because now everyone had seen it.
Phones were out.
Screens glowing.
Faces turned toward me.
“That’s her.”
“She’s trending.”
“Check this one—it’s even clearer.”
My chest tightened painfully.
Trending.
The word made my stomach twist.
This wasn’t just school anymore.
This was everywhere.
⸻
“Amara.”
I stopped.
That voice.
I turned.
Adrian.
He was pushing through the crowd toward me, his expression serious.
Not shocked.
Not amused.
Just… focused.
“Come with me,” he said.
I didn’t argue.
I couldn’t.
I followed him quickly as he led me away from the noise, the whispers, the suffocating crowd.
We didn’t stop until we reached an empty corridor.
Only then did I realize I was shaking.
“I can’t do this,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “I can’t—this is too much.”
He didn’t say anything at first.
Just watched me.
Waiting.
“Everyone’s seen it,” I continued, my breathing uneven. “They think I’m—” I couldn’t even finish the sentence.
“Look at me,” he said.
I hesitated.
Then I did.
“You’re not what they’re saying,” he said firmly.
“But they believe it,” I replied.
“That doesn’t make it true.”
“It doesn’t matter,” I said, frustration spilling over. “Truth doesn’t matter if no one cares about it.”
“It matters,” he said. “You just have to make them see it.”
I let out a shaky laugh.
“And how am I supposed to do that when there’s more videos now?”
His expression hardened slightly.
“More?”
I nodded.
“They showed one in class. It’s worse. Longer.”
His jaw tightened.
“That means someone is releasing them on purpose,” he said.
“I know,” I whispered. “And I think we both know who.”
Sandra.
We didn’t even need to say her name.
⸻
“This isn’t just about ruining your reputation,” Adrian continued. “This is control.”
I frowned slightly.
“What do you mean?”
“Whoever is doing this wants to keep you exactly where you are,” he said. “Powerless. Isolated. Easy to manipulate.”
A chill ran down my spine.
Because it made sense.
Too much sense.
“I’m not powerless,” I said, though my voice wasn’t as strong as I wanted it to be.
He looked at me steadily.
“Then prove it.”
I swallowed.
“How?”
“By not breaking,” he said. “That’s what they want.”
I looked away.
Because he was right.
Part of me wanted to run.
To disappear.
To hide until everything faded away.
But another part…
A stronger part…
Refused.
“I’m not going to give them that,” I said quietly.
“Good.”
⸻
We stood there in silence for a moment.
Then I asked the question that had been sitting heavily in my chest.
“What if I can’t fix this?”
He didn’t hesitate.
“You can.”
“You don’t know that.”
“I know people,” he said. “And I know patterns.”
I frowned slightly. “Patterns?”
“This wasn’t random,” he said again. “And anything planned… can be exposed.”
Hope flickered again.
Small.
Fragile.
But there.
⸻
The bell rang again in the distance.
Reality calling us back.
I took a deep breath, steadying myself.
“I have to go back,” I said.
“You sure?”
“No,” I admitted. “But I can’t keep running.”
He nodded slightly.
“Then don’t,” he said.
⸻
As I walked back into the hallway, the noise returned instantly.
The whispers.
The stares.
The judgment.
Nothing had changed.
Except me.
Because this time…
I didn’t lower my head.
I didn’t rush.
I didn’t hide.
I walked straight through it.
Through the humiliation.
Through the labels.
Through the lies.
Because if this was a fight…
Then I wasn’t backing down.
⸻
But deep down…
I knew something.
This was only the beginning.
Because if they were releasing more videos…
Then they weren’t done with me yet.
And whatever came next…
Would be even worse.
