Secrets Revealed

The last few days, Kai and I have barely talked and I got a little closer with Rowan. Weird things keep happening, though. On Tuesday, I caught a glimpse of a classmate's eyes changing color, drastically. On Wednesday, I woke up at 1am to howling in the woods and no one else was in the house. On Thursday, my dad called me and asked if I had any new changes to my body. I haven't gone through puberty since I was 12. It's Friday and I'm hoping I see no weird s**t. I wake up, get dressed in my cutest mini skirt with fishnets and a black crop top. I'm really wanting to get on Kai's nerves today. I'm hoping Kyle will be a classic hormone driven teenager in front of Kai and it ticks him off. I go downstairs after I'm all ready and I stop dead in my tracks at the bottom of the stairs. A shiver goes through my spine and the large, muscular man in the living room turns to look at me. He looks like he's related to Elijah, but I can't place why I'm scared shitless just at the sight of him. I revert to sassiness and put my hand on my hip. "Who are you?" I ask, looking him up and down with disgust on my face. It almost sounds like he snarls when he speaks. "I could ask you the same thing, but I already know the answer to that question." He steps closer to me, probably expecting me to step back. I stay still and I can see the irritation on his face. "I'm Sunshine, Sunny for short. I'm actually not a very Sunny person and I take no s**t. But, I'd really appreciate an answer to my question." I say, watching his demeanor tighten. "Please." I tilt my head a bit and smile big. Kai facepalms and I see him whisper to his dad, "We're dead." The giant man laughs at me and holds a hand out for me to shake it. "I'm Mason." He says with a smile. "Hi, Mason. Would you like to explain why everyone is shitting their pants because you're talking to me? Are you a big scary mafia guy or something?" I ask with the smile still plastered on my face. "Haha! No, I'm not in the mafia. You should ask your dad about everything. And, tell your mom I said hi. I'm sure she'd be glad to hear from me." He watches me closely for my next move as if we're playing chess. "If you're referring to the close-lipped Derek Gray who's never spoken of this place and flew me all the way to another state when I was five, nope. He won't give me any answers. And, Katelyn, my mother, is a royal b***h and doesn't find any joy in hearing about anything having to do with this place. Hell, she doesn't even like me and I came out of her v****a. Thanks, though." I c**k my head to the side and watch Kai squirm when I say that. The big man's smile fades. "Well, you're welcome to ask my brother, Eli, about it anytime. I have to get going." He leaves with a slam of the door. I walk out to the car and Kai gets in after me. Mason is still sitting in his truck, watching us. Kai leans over and kisses me on the cheek unexpectedly. Then, he places a hand on my thigh and drives in the direction of Mason as if it's a show for him. "Wanna skip today?" He says, nonchalantly. "You just kiss me and grope me for someone else to see and then you ask me if I wanna skip?" I ask, one eyebrow raised. "Yeah." He doesn't take his hand off my thigh, or his eyes off the road. "I guess that's fine, but I need answers." I say, as I watch his brows furrow and his mouth slightly frown. He pulls off into a secluded clearing between a bunch of trees. "Okay. But, you have to listen carefully." He turns and says to me. The car is turned off and he turns his body in his seat. I watch his hand move from my thigh and I whimper a bit. I don't even know why, but I do. It's involuntary. He raises an eyebrow at me and places his hand back on my thigh, this time, under my skirt a little and my heart races. I let out all the air I didn't know I was holding in. "I promise, I have no idea why my body is reacting this way." I say, feeling the heat of his hand so close to an area it shouldn't be. He says nothing and moves his hand to the inner most part of my thigh, his pinky touching me where it shouldn't. I involuntarily open my legs a little and whimper again. "Okay, that's weird." I say while ripping his hand off my leg. "It's not weird. I might have an idea why you're reacting like that. Anyway, you said you want answers. Shoot me some questions." He says, his eyes still fixated on my slightly open legs. "Why is everyone afraid of Mason?" I ask, watching his lips as he speaks. "He's the alpha." He looks dead serious. "Alpha? Like, a wolf pack?" I ask, feeling silly. "Yes. I bet you noticed the other night when we were all gone and wolves were howling all over the woods. Well, everyone in our little "town" is a part of the pack. We're werewolves. Not the ones like the old movies. We're oversized wolves like in Twilight. We change whenever we want. But, the full moon does have an affect on us. It makes us stronger and more dangerous, so we roam the woods in order to not hurt anyone. And, the little kids that haven't gotten their wolves yet, get locked inside the alpha's house to be protected by the ones that have mastered controlling their wolves." He doesn't look like he's joking. "I'm gonna need proof." I say, jokingly. He gestures for me to get out of the car and he steps away from it, stripping down to his boxer briefs. He takes out his lip rings and his guages and hands them to me. I watch in amazement as he turns into a giant, black wolf. His eyes don't change, though. I thought they would. I step closer to him and place a hand on his furry head. "You can change back now. I have more questions." I say, quietly. He's beautiful. He backs up and transforms. I keep my eyes on his because I figure he's fully naked. I'm right. I hand him his clothes and his guages and lip rings. He just waits for me to ask another question. He's putting his shirt back on when I think of the next thing to ask. "So, do you guys have mates or anything like that?" I watch his face. "Yes. There's actually something I need to talk to you about." He opens his mouth to say something else, but I cut him off. "So, my mom and dad were mates?" I study him. He looks upset. "No. Your dad's mate died giving birth to you and he fell for a human girl. Your mom. She's always resented the fact that he didn't want another child and she had to raise someone else's daughter." I step back, tears streaming down my face. "You're lying. My dad would've never lied to me my whole life. You HAVE to be lying because I'm not a werewolf. See? No fur!" I storm off into the trees, not even knowing where I'm going. I wander around the woods for a while, the snow starting to fall from the sky. He somehow catches up to me and tries to put a coat over me. I shrug it off a couple times. Until the third time he tries and he succeeds in getting it over my shoulders. We walk in silence for what feels like forever. "I don't feel like a werewolf." I say, defeated. He just stays silent and leads me back to the car. We go get some pizza in the next town over and just have fun until around 4. Then, we head back to the house and Rowan volunteers me to cook dinner.
