Chapter Eight-1

2044 Words

Chapter Eight The death of Igor was not discovered until later that morning. The prince had given strict instructions that he and the princess were not be disturbed. Accordingly, it was several hours after daybreak that guards, after hammering on the door and receiving no reply, broke into the room. There was consternation when they saw the body of Igor lying among the bloodstains. The rope of bed linen and curtains hanging out of the window made it obvious enough how Yolande had made her escape. There was a lot of shouting and rushing about, and eventually a group of horsemen set out in pursuit. All day they rode hard, through the Deep, Dark Wood. At nightfall they slowed, but continued to ride, though their horses were weary. In the morning they rested for a while, then set off again.
