Ten “Sorry, you what?” Freya stared in wide-eyed silence as she took a moment to decide whether she’d heard Max right. When he first walked into her paper-crammed office, she hadn’t noticed him, her mind buried deep in completing this week’s payroll—her best attempt at forgetting her encounter with her mum and then the call from the police right afterward.
