Forty-Two Freya’s eyes prickled just looking at Max, her heart straining that she got to share a little more time with him. If that wasn’t a big enough sign she most definitely cared… And then there was his mention of The Rainbow Room, an indication he too cared, at least enough to find out about her, anyway. And he’d turned up tonight, hadn’t he? Fuck her life. Lord help her if he called her bluff. If he asked to rekindle what they’d had, how would she even respond to that? My life is so different these days. So is his. Why am I still terrified of throwing myself into a relationship with him? Because he’d want more than last time.
