I thought of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and how fortunate they were that God provided paradise for them, and how foolish they had been to throw it away due to the serpent’s blandishments. After years living on the Frontier, I was somewhat experienced in travelling in the wild places, and could look after myself outside civilisation, yet living within the supportive framework of the 9th Cavalry and living alone was vastly different.
