Brianna's POV "Brianna! My love! Where are you?" I heard him shouting downstairs, and fear engulfed me. My heart raced, hoping he wouldn't find me, but escape seemed impossible. I was locked in our room, unable to break free. His footsteps echoed as he ascended the stairs, intensifying my nervousness. Tears streamed down my face uncontrollably. He opened the door, and our eyes met. His gaze emanated pure malice, freezing me in place. With an angry tone, he declared, "You've been here the whole time. I've been searching for you." "Please, stop hurting me. I can't take it anymore. Let me go," I pleaded, my voice trembling with fear. But his response was a sinister smirk, deriving twisted satisfaction from my pain. I noticed his hand gripping a rope. He approached me, and with each step, my tears continued to flow. "Sweetheart, don't cry. I just need to change the tie on your hand. Can't you see it's soaked in blood?" His voice carried a deceptive sweetness as if he were a normal boyfriend speaking to his girlfriend. But to me, it felt like madness. He grabbed my hand tightly, causing immense pain. "No! Please, no! Don't do this! Stop hurting me! Go away from me!" I begged for mercy, but he remained indifferent, not listening to my pleas. --- "No! Please, no! Don't do this! Stop hurting me! Go away from me!" I woke up in a cold sweat, my sheets twisted around me, and my body trembling with fear. The nightmare felt all too real, replaying the horrors of my past in vivid detail. I found myself face to face with him once again, his eyes piercing into mine, his voice echoing in my mind. Gasping for breath, I sat up in bed, my body covered in a thin layer of perspiration. The room felt suffocating, and the echoes of his menacing laughter still rang in my ears. I reached for the bedside lamp, my trembling hand fumbling with the switch. As the soft light filled the room, the shadows retreated, providing a much-needed respite from the haunting nightmare. Just as I started to calm down and collect my thoughts, the loud noise of my alarm clock shattered the peaceful moment. I was startled, sitting up straight, and the remnants of the nightmare quickly faded away. The alarm reminded me of the present, of the life I had built for myself, free from the torment of abuse. With a deep breath, I silenced the alarm, my hands steadying as I regained control over my emotions. It was a new day, a chance to embrace the healing journey I had embarked upon. The nightmare may have momentarily transported me back to a time of darkness, but I was determined to continue moving forward, to reclaim my power and thrive. I dialed Dr. Meredith's number. "Doctor, it's happening again," I expressed, my voice brimming with fear and stress. I heard her take a deep breath before she responded, her tone steady and reassuring. "Dr. Brianna, I'm here for you. Take a deep breath and let's talk about what happened. When you have free time, come to my office." "Yes, Dr. Meredith. I'll call when I'm ready to go there," I said and hung up the phone. She had been my therapist for almost 5 years, patiently listening to my story and helping me on my healing journey. --- I had just completed a surgery, finished some paperwork, and conducted rounds with my patients alongside the resident and intern doctors. It had been an exhausting day, but despite the fatigue, I found joy and fulfillment in my work. As the day came to an end, I found myself standing outside the CEO's office, my heart beating rapidly in my chest. The conversation with Lorei had instilled in me a renewed determination to confront the CEO, to assert my position in this hospital that had become my refuge. Taking a deep breath, I reminded myself of everything this hospital meant to me. It wasn't just a workplace—it was where I had found purpose and a chance at rebuilding my life after the darkness of my past. I couldn't let fear or uncertainty hold me back now. I knocked on the CEO's office door, the sound echoing through the hallway. As I stood there, waiting for a response, a wave of anxiety washed over me. The silence stretched on, and there was no answer from within the office. With a mixture of curiosity and concern, I cautiously pushed the door open, peering inside. To my surprise, I found a woman standing in the office, engaged in a conversation with the CEO. She exuded confidence, her elegant demeanor contrasting sharply with my scrubs-clad appearance. Her sleek, dark hair cascaded down her shoulders, framing a face that exuded both beauty and authority. It was evident that she held some significance in Blake's life. Feeling like an intruder, I instinctively attempted to retreat, preparing to close the door quietly and leave them to their discussion. But before I could make my exit, Blake's eyes darted toward me, recognition and urgency flashing across his face. "Dr. Reese? What is the reason for your presence here?" he interrogated me, his voice resonating with icy detachment. My pulse quickened as Blake's stern tone cut through the air, leaving me momentarily speechless. The woman's piercing gaze intensified as if trying to decipher the nature of my presence in Blake's office. Gathering my composure, I met her scrutinizing stare with a blend of determination and unease. "I apologize for interrupting," I replied, my voice steady but tinged with a touch of anxiety. "I was hoping to discuss the matter of my contract with Dr. Pierre." Blake's eyes narrowed slightly as he assessed me, his expression unreadable. He then turned his attention back to the woman, his voice laced with firmness. "Stacey, I believe it's time for you to leave. Our conversation can continue at another time." The woman's face contorted with displeasure, but she said nothing. She cast one last disdainful glance in my direction before striding towards the door, her heels echoing through the office. As she exited, the room seemed to exhale a collective sigh of relief, and I found myself alone with Blake once more. I mustered the courage to address the issue that had brought me here. "Dr. Pierre, my contract is approaching its end, and I wanted to inquire about the possibility of renewal. What are the requirements and procedures?" Blake's gaze remained fixed on me, his eyes searching my face as he leaned back in his chair. A chilling silence settled in the room, elongating the tension that hung between us. Instead of directly answering my question, he spoke with a calculated tone, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Dr. Reese, let's not be so formal," he began, his voice dropping to a low, seductive register. "I believe we can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement." I raised an eyebrow, taken aback by his sudden change in demeanor. His words hung in the air, laced with an underlying proposition that I struggled to comprehend. My mind raced, searching for meaning within his enigmatic statement. "What kind of arrangement?" I managed to utter, my voice betraying a mix of curiosity and caution. Blake's lips curled into a faint smile, his gaze fixed on me with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine. "If you agree to this deal, Brianna, I will gladly renew your contract. But there is one golden rule, my dear." He leaned forward, his eyes locked onto mine, his voice dropping to a dangerously alluring whisper. "You must become my fake girlfriend. You see, there is a woman in my life who has been a constant thorn in my side. By being by my side, we can effectively deter her advances and put an end to her relentless pursuit. All you have to do is play the part, without ever letting emotions get in the way. A simple arrangement, wouldn't you say?" I was completely stunned and couldn't find the words to express how confused I felt. The idea seemed so ridiculous and hard to believe. I couldn't help but remember all the painful experiences and shattered trust from the past, which made it difficult for me to decide. I had worked tirelessly to regain control over my life, and now I found myself at a crossroads, confronted with a choice that felt impossibly difficult to make. I struggled to find my voice, my mind racing with a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. "I... I don't know what to say. This is a lot to process, Dr. Pierre. It's not a decision I can make lightly." Blake's expression remained inscrutable, his eyes fixed on me with a mix of anticipation and impatience. "Take your time, Brianna. But remember, this is an opportunity that could shape your future at this hospital. Think about it, and let me know your answer soon. Just be aware, falling in love is not an option. Emotions will only complicate matters and bring an end to our arrangement." He relaxed in his chair, a cocky smirk forming at the corner of his mouth. His words carried a heavy significance, leaving me trapped in a difficult situation with no clear way out. As I walked out of his office, his proposition weighed heavily on my mind, uncertain of what steps to take next. The boundaries between staying loyal and looking out for myself became blurry, presenting me with an incredibly tough choice that could impact not only my career but also the very core of my being.
