Nicole's POV
"Well, look who finally decided to wake up. Slept in, huh?"
My mom teased me with a grin.
I laughed, leaned over, and kissed her on the cheek.
"Mmm... that smells amazing."
I peeked into the pan of freshly baked banana cake she'd just taken out of the oven.
"Can I take a slice to Mrs. Vera?"
She burst out laughing.
"Already bringing treats to your future mother-in-law?"
She gave my butt a playful smack as I walked past her.
"Mom, stop. We're just seeing each other. It's not a big deal."
I tried not to think about everything that had happened the night before.
"Uh-huh. And I was born yesterday."
She kissed my cheek.
"I'm heading out to buy groceries for the boarding house today."
"Okay. Love you."
I grabbed another quick kiss before heading toward the kitchen.
