The moonlight was cool against my skin as I wandered through the mansion’s quiet halls. I didn’t know why I couldn’t sleep. Rest had become a foreign thing since I arrived here—just like peace. Maybe it was the bond tugging at my nerves. Or maybe it was the ghost of Gina’s betrayal still haunting the edges of my mind. Either way, I found myself drawn to the east wing. Again.
A whisper.
It stopped me mid-step.
I was near the back staircase that led down to the wine cellar and storage rooms. No one should have been down there at this hour.
I held my breath.
A voice floated up—low, husky, unmistakably male. “We have to move soon. The Alpha’s hold on her is strengthening.”
My heart stilled.
“Then we’ll strike before the next full moon,” another voice replied. Female. Soft. Familiar.
