“You will lose control of the beast within you,” she declared, her voice trembling with rage. “Every day, you will fight and struggle, wishing for death to free you from the torment. You will become a danger to yourself and to those around you. This is your punishment. You are a Deathbringer!” The memory of her words burned in his mind. After the woman delivered her curse, she knelt by her daughter’s lifeless form, her grief and anger creating an almost palpable force in the air. The king, ever the diplomat, stepped forward, his voice low and soothing as he offered his aid. “Please, let us…” But the woman’s sharp, disdainful glare froze him mid-sentence.
