The Terminal Clock

Victor’s scream of rage echoed through the mansion like a dying animal’s final cry. I was in the hallway when it happened. One moment he was storming toward his study after watching the replay of Elena’s boardroom takeover on the news, his face twisted with fury at the public humiliation. The next moment he clutched his side, gasped sharply, and collapsed against the wall. The sound he made was not human. It was raw pain mixed with shock. I ran to him without thinking, dropping to my knees beside his crumpled body. “Victor!” I cried out. “Someone help! Call Dr. Harrison!” Staff came running from every direction. Marcus the head of security lifted Victor carefully while others called for the private ambulance. I held Victor’s hand as we waited, feeling how cold and clammy it had become.
