Chapter 16
I jolted up awake, my heart beating heavily and gasps escaping my throat. Pushing my hand against my head, I felt it pounding like little needles were piercing into my flesh. My eyes quickly examined the entire room before I tossed the blankets aside and stood up while attempting to recall the events of last night.
I hadn’t seen a dream. Not today. I wasn’t awakened by a dream but rather the alarm on my phone that I had set to be awake at ten in the morning. It was the weekend, the next day. The sun was blazing brilliantly behind my bedroom curtains.
When I approached my window, I squinted and winced at the bright sun as it glared straight into my eyes. After a few minutes, I adjusted to the light and then drew the curtains wide open.
