It's not even five am, and I have already had a new funeral to plan for Jane Doe till they find her head. I am hoping that I can arrange a good funeral for her. I was slowly able to get off the ground. Detective Nicole offered to take me home due to me being in such shock. We made it to my apartment after a short drive from the scene. She somehow managed to get me into my apartment and on my couch. Still in disbelief, another one in three days. "Detective, do you know if she will be able to be identified? She didn't have a head." Detective Nicole had to think hard about this question. "To be honest, I don't know. It will be hard but we will do it. Are you okay enough to answer a few questions?" " I guess so."
"When you found the body did you see anything strange besides the scene?"
"No, all I could do was run from the scene. It terrified me."
"Where were you last night?"
"I was here after you interviewed me yesterday."
"No one was here with you."
"No, I even know what ran across on the news last night. I was staring at the TV, seeing my high school friend's photos on the screen, some with me in them with disbelief that she was gone. " I stared at the detective, seeing how much she was pacing around like she was trying to find something out of place. "I believe you need a search warrant if you are trying to search my place." I stood up defensively in front of my bedroom door. She is acting like I have something to hide.
I screamed rudely, realizing now I was their main person of interest in the case. "Reyna, you don't have to fight me about this."
I started to go to the door to open it to show Detective Nicole out the door. "One more question before I leave." "Sure what is it."
"Why were you at the funeral home at five am?"
I stared at her with a dumbfounded face."I have to be there in the mornings on Tuesdays and Thursdays to prep the parlor rooms for potential clients to view when they are buying family plots or deciding where they want their services done by, I also have to file all our paper work. " I opened the door to see the sun shining brightly hurting my eyes due to them not being accustomed to the brightness to get the detective out of my house. She walked out looking back to glance over the living room and part of my kitchen. "We will be back if we have any more questions." I slammed the door in her face as she walked to her police car.
I texted Michael to see how he was.
~Hey, are you okay?
~Hey, I am okay. How are you? They are asking me a lot of questions about you.
~Yeah. They think I am the murderer. I haven't done a thing. I don't even know Jane Doe.
~ Yeah that is strange. If you want, I can come over there later if you want.
~No, I want to be alone.
I was wondering why he was offering to come later. Oh, yeah, his allergy to the sun. I really want to research to see if that is real, and he has just been making me do all the nasty hard work. I glanced at the flashing microwave to see that it was still six am. Yeah, I'll do that after I go to bed. I want to take a nap since apparently I am going to have the day off.
Just a few miles away from Reyna's apartment in the mausoleum, the police are taking photos of the crime scene while also looking for the missing head of the victim and her fingers to try to identify her. Detective Nicole was pulling up to start talking to Michael.
"Hey Michael, I have a couple of questions for you." "Of course, detective, would you like to come into my office?"
They both of them started walking towards the office to have a talk. As they are walking along the first floor, Detective Nicole pipes up "So, do you have a problem with us looking around in the basement where you normally prep the bodies and in your personal residents upstairs?"
"No, is there anything you are looking for?"
"No. So how well do you know Reyna?"
" I mean, I know her as my employee and someone who I can turn to when I need something done around the funeral home."
"Have you ever seen her act strangely around anyone in the town?"
"No."
"You are new to town, right?"
"Yes, I am from Metairie. I moved here because I wanted to get away from the city noise."
"Did you know that the old funeral director was murdered?"
"Yes, on the day that I moved here."
"Why were you and Reyna here at 5am?
"One, I live on the property on the second floor and two, we handle paperwork and cleaning the funeral parlor for potential clients. I was going to have Reyna show me how to do the paperwork for some of the plot purchases and the rotation of the sections in the cemetery."
"What was the next section that was supposed to be the rotation?"
"We were running over to the second crime scene to verify that we were right."
"Detective, there is something you should know. The next funeral was supposed to go to the mausoleum. Only two people know that information and one of them is in this room with you."
The detective looked at Michael with a shocked expression. Suddenly, someone screamed "Detective, we found the head." Everyone in the room started running out to go see where it was found and to try to give Jane Doe a name. Once in the hallway in front of the door, Michael stopped due to the sun. "I'm sorry detective, but I can not follow you. I am allergic to the sun."
Everyone looked puzzled at Michael. "If I step out in the sun I get covered in hives. I can show you if you don't believe me." He started to unbutton his cuffs and rolled up his long white sleeves. "I have my burn cream to help me, but I will only put my arm in the sun." Everyone is still looking at him like he is insane and mentally ill. He walked up to the front door and stuck his arm in the sun that was coming through the stained-glass window with a dove in the center.
He winced once his pale white skin was touched by the bright rainbow sunlight. Soon you see his skin start to have a rash come across it and red blistering hives start to show up across his skin. He quickly jerked his arm to him and ran slowly into his office. Detective Nicole looked green in her face. "Oh my. Bring me to where the victim's head is."
