Moreno cleared the paperwork that Brodie’s arrest had generated then drove him back to his home at Av de Palomares. On the way, Moreno explained that Brodie’s licence transfer only required one more signature which he would ensure was completed that day, allowing Brodie to take over the bar the next day. He would drop the document off at El Puerto by lunchtime.
“Thank you for doing this, Señor Brodie. I appreciate it very much and I must apologise for what I put you through last night, but it was important for me to be sure that you were capable of doing what needs to be done. Manuel is an old friend and I needed to know that his safety and that of his family were in good hands. I will tell Manuel that your licence will be transferred today, but he must not know of our arrangement.”
