Seven o’clock the next morning, Brodie was on his usual morning run along the beach, heading toward the village of Villaricos, formerly a Phoenician port. Forgotten by history for thousands of years, it resurfaced as a silver mining boom town in the 19th century before finally becoming the pleasant fishing village of today. Villaricos was now home to a number of bars and restaurants, regularly frequented by a substantial ex-pat British population. It was separated from Playa Marques, where Brodie lived, by a convenient three miles of quiet beach. When the mood took him, he could extend his six mile morning run by continuing along the paseo in Villaricos, coming out of the far end of the village and up onto the main road above the seafront. From there he could complete a circular route back
