At six thirty the next morning, Brodie rose, pulled on a pair of black running shorts, a black top and a pair of trainers. He picked up a pair of Ray-Bans, made his way down to the beach, and began to run along the water’s edge towards Villaricos. Alone on the beach, at that time of the morning, he was still annoyed with Malik for storming out of his apartment the night before. He ran at a punishing pace, his feet stamping into the wet sand as he took his mood out on the beach. The morning had not yet reached the high temperature it would within a few hours but it was warm enough to cause Brodie to sweat profusely as he reached the far end of his usual morning run, just short of Villaricos.
