Krystal POV I didn't wait for the sun to fully come up before I wrapped Lysander in three layers of blankets and tucked him into his stroller, and because his breathing was getting so shallow and high-pitched, I knew I couldn't wait for a private doctor or for the bank to open. I told Mrs. Gable to stay behind and lock the doors and not to answer for anyone, and then I pushed that stroller through the empty morning streets toward the free clinic six blocks away while the cold air bit at my face and made my lungs sting.
