I slammed the car into park before it had even fully stopped and the tires screeched against the wet pavement of the alleyway, and as I jumped out, I saw the two black SUVs blocking the far exit and Miller, my father’s lead head of security, standing there with three other men who were all dressed in those same identical dark coats.
Krystal was backed against the brick wall at the bottom of the fire escape and she was clutching Lysander so tight that I could barely see his head under the heavy blanket, and when she saw me her eyes didn't fill with relief, they filled with a fresh kind of terror because she probably thought I was there to help them take her son away.
