Talking through a wall

{Erica} I stand at a table when one of the men walks up to me and I watch as he grabs a random drink and downs it in a instant. Random guy: Out of all people, the boss chooses his own daughter to work with us? Tch..just don’t get in my way princess b***h. I felt my hand immediately clutch my drink tighter as I get ready to punch him when my father comes around and places an arm around my shoulder. Mr. Kim: Ah Erica! I see you’ve met Antonio! I look at the guy as I get a better view. He has a long scar on his face and his hair is short but messy, he looks to be in is early to mid 30’s but with the attitude he gave me, he could pass for younger. Antonio: Boss, when will she be able to go on missions? Mr. Kim: Not too soon, I wanna put her through a month training period. After that then I’ll see if she’s ready not only for the physical, but for the mental challenges that comes with this job. I nod as I look at my dad with respect and determination. Erica: I won’t let you down dad, I promise. He gives me a nod and walks off, leaving me with Antonio once again. Antonio: Listen, I won’t give you no princess treatment because you’re the bosses daughter. You are gonna get treated like every other newbie here alright? So prepare for a life of hell bitchy princess. I glare at him as I walk up and knock his drink out his hand when he was about to take another sip. I grab his shirt and pull him close enough to my face to where I could smell his breath. Erica: I won’t lie that I wasn’t gonna ask for no special treatment, but I will say that I won’t just accept just ANY kind of treatment. I give respect when it’s earned, and I sure you’re the same. So, we can make this easy or hard. Don’t purposely piss me off and I wont get in your way, clear? With my words hitting him with each breath I take, he give a low chuckle as I let him go. He puts his hands up in surrender and smiles at me. Antonio: My bad my bad, didn’t know you were really like that, you kinda already got my respect Lowkey~ I roll my eyes as I pick my drink back up and take a sip. Erica: So that means we’re clear? Antonio: We’re clear, Erica. I smirk as I walk away drinking my drink as I leave him there with an obvious smile. I walk to another table as I see some pastries and reach to grab one when my hand collided with a guy who looks around my age but upon further inspection I widen my eyes a so realize who it is. Erica: JASON!? Jason: ERICA!? My eyes widen and my hand freezes over the pastry as I stare at the boy who I almost forgotten was my high school crush not too many years ago. Erica: What are you doing here? This is my house. Jason: I work for boss, have been for over 2 years now. I pull my hand away as I sigh and look away as I see my father talking to some men. Erica: did you know- Jason: No, I never knew he was your dad. Which isn’t new, since I’m know for being oblivious. I smiled as I eventually grabbed a pastry and play with it a bit as i look at him. Erica: So, why work for my dad? I never really knew you as the type to fight. Jason’s smile faltered as he looked at the ground before looking around with unsteady eyes. Jason: My parents kicked me out after high school and disowned me, so your father took me into the business and provided me with everything I needed. Food, shelter, and a job that I grew into. I listened to him and my heart swelled at his story. I couldn’t bring up the fact that I’ve always had a thing for him, but things weren’t adding up. Erica: Everytime you invited me to your house your parents seemed fine..why did they kicked you out? Jason: They hated me. Always did. When my older brother graduated before us, they spent all their time coddling him and making sure his adulthood was fine. When it came to me..they wanted me to do what they were doing, work for my brother and give him everything, and when I didn’t, they kicked me out and disowned me. I frowned at his words as I took a bite of the sugar bun and I held it up and smirks as I chewed. Erica: I gotta say, you MUST try these buns they are great. He smiled and laughed at my words as I continued to eat. Erica: I gotta hand it to you though..you’ve changed, drastically. Jason: Nah, still the same doofus you knew since pre school. I smiled as we talked for a bit and I learned that he lives in the agent dorms and work on missions often. Erica: Are they as dangerous my dad says they are? Jason: Hell yeah, if not, it sometimes be worse if you have a terrible day. I nod at his words as I took in the thought. Erica: So, I would have to go through a month of a somewhat training trial before I could go on missions. He nods, sipping his drink as he crossed his arms. Jason: I will warn you, you might know me better than the others, so I’d advise to stay close if you can. The guys are very territorial when it comes to going on missions, and they don’t tread lightly to a newbie stealing missions right under their nose. I frowned as I set my drink down and placed my hands on my hips as I glared at the other guys and spat out. Erica: I’m not scared of those turtle looking assholes. All they have to offer is musty bodies, and stinky cologne. Jason laughed at my words as he slowly shook his head to me and my way of saying things. Jason: I swear you never changed since our school days. You’re still the same old girl who won’t back down for a fight even if it’ll get you expelled. I smiled and flipped my hair when my dad walks over and I smile at him. Erica: Hey dad! I didn’t know you hired- Mr. Kim: Erica, come talk to me for a minute. Without me having a say so, my dad pulled me away from Jason as I waved him to give me a minute and me and my dad are at a corner away from the ceremony. Erica: Dad what the hell? What’s wrong? Me. Kim: Erica, how do you know Jason? Erica: We’ve known each other since pre school days, I thought you knew this? My dads face drains if color as he shakes his head and his hands clench. Mr. Kim: I must’ve forgotten, but you have to stay away from him. Erica: No! Why? My dads face contorted from concern to anger as he grabbed my hand and leaned in closer to whisper in my ear. Mr. Kim: He is no normal boy, he has a dark past and I don’t want you tangled up in it, so do what’s right and stay away. I pull away and laugh at him as I hold my stomach. Erica: Dad, that’s silly. All he did was get kicked out because he couldn’t support his older brother like his parents wanted him to, what’s so dangerous about that? Mr. Kim: No no no! He’s lying! I know the real reason, and it’s not a good one, so stay back from him. You can still be his friend, but don’t get closer than that. I looked at him with pure confusion as I glance at Jason who is silently sipping a drink and fiddling with the table cloth as I turned my head back at my father. Erica: Dad, what has he done? I need to know if you want me to stay away from him. Mr. Kim: I won’t say it. Even if I tell you, you’ll still ignore me and get closer than friends with him anyway. Erica: Well maybe I might actually listen to you if you tell me what’s really going on dad. He froze as I struggled to say the words and just gave up when he shook his head. Mr. Kim: No, I won’t put you in that kind of danger, stay away and don’t make me say it again. With that he walked away and I’m left feeling confused and angry at the fact that my father won’t tell me what’s going on with Jason but he wants me to stay away from him. Jason? Him? I swear he looks like he wouldn’t hurt a fly.. I’m left with my thoughts as I’m starring at Jason from across the backyard and I talk to myself. Erica: What did you do Jason..?
