"Why don't you try it so you can see that everything I say is true?" With a low, husky voice, the demon wolf spoke.
"I allow you to use whatever kind of power that necklace has against me; just make sure you win; otherwise, you won't be able to leave this place. You will stay here forever, as my mate, whether you like it or not, Relina."
The demon wolf's once-present smile was erased, and he suddenly adopted a grave expression as he turned to face Relina, who was at that very moment still sobbing and unsure of what to do.
"Don't tell me you can't do it; what's the matter? Why haven't you used the power of that necklace yet?"
Relina was only able to let go of her hand. She lowered her head slowly as she sobbed. She was forced to face the reality that she would be trapped in that place with this creature forever and that she would never be able to escape.
The demon wolf at that time did nothing but observe Relina as she sobbed. He didn't intend to scare her or even hurt her; he was only compelled to say those things to stop her. The necklace wouldn't be able to return Relina to her world, even if it had strength and power. And only one creature he was aware of that could accomplish it, if Relina used strong power, could make it happen.
The demon wolf just let Relina cry until she was worn out and stopped on her own, but her crying got worse rather than better. The woman in front of him was nearly drowning in her tears when he could no longer control himself and could not bear to watch her for the next few hours.
He approached Relina with his feet moving slowly in her direction. His white hair matched the petals of the flowers that were scattered everywhere with each gust of wind, as if dancing to the beat of the music. He abruptly pulled her toward his chest and firmly held her in his arms.
When Relina felt his warm arms encircling her body, she was unable to move, and even her copious tears stopped flowing from her eyes. A strange heat that gently caressed her chest was produced by the heat coursing through his veins. Even the warmth of his breath was warm enough to feel it hit her cheek.
Additionally, Relina could hear his heartbeat, which was rapid and became even more so with each minute that went by. Why did she feel her heart calling his name with each beat that baffled her?
The demon wolf tightened his embrace, appearing as if he didn't want to let go of Relina, and said, "Don't worry, I will never let you get hurt. I'm ready to gamble everything I have even if it means the end of my life just to ensure your safety."
Relina struggled to understand what kind of force had suddenly enveloped her entire being and prevented her from escaping his arms. It appeared as though he didn't want to let her go and leave her behind.
Yet why?
Why did Relina have such strong feelings for this creature? Why did she think their hearts had been connected for so long? She must be furious with him and hate him so much. What was this mystery that has now completely engulfed her?
"Relina! Wake up! Don't let your feelings get you carried away! You should not trust him because he will only do you harm! Wake up before it's too late. Relina, wake up!" Relina heard a voice from the bottom of her heart that woke her up.
"Stay away from me!"
Relina pushed the demon wolf hard, but she wasn't strong enough to move him; instead, his arm tightened the defense even more. She then felt as though she was hitting a large steel wall that, even if she tried, was very difficult to move.
It was difficult for Relina to believe that she had surrendered to his dominance. She would have likely been engulfed by his power if she hadn't heard the voice calling to her repeatedly.
Deliberately separating his body from Relina, the demon wolf reached for her, cupped her face, and stared earnestly into her eyes without saying anything else.
Relina begged, "Why are you doing this to me? What do you need from me? Please tell me how we can put an end to everything. I'm begging you, please."
Her tears started to flow once more as she continued, "Do you want money, a lot of money? Then, take me back to my world. I will work hard to give you everything you need. Don't worry, I will never run from you. I will do everything, as long as you just let me go, I promise. So please..."
Relina would kneel before the demon wolf if she could, but it seemed that despite her repeated requests, he would never let her leave that place so quickly. She abruptly recalled the moment she first saw him in her dream. His physical appearance was still very distinct in her memory, and she was aware that it was unlikely that everything that had been stuffed into her dream would come true. She would not want her dreams to repeat themselves.
The demon wolf stared into Relina's eyes and said, "I have no interest in any money this world has, Relina."
"Then, what do you need from me? Is it my blood? Is it my body?" Relina broke down in tears and could not control her feelings. If money wasn't pursuing him, her body most likely was. In exchange for her freedom, she would pay for her body.
Relina believed that she could only see scenes like this in literature and motion pictures. But at that point, she never imagined that she would find herself in such a predicament.
The kind of tale the heroine should beg for when she wants to leave In exchange for freedom, she would sell her body, but in the end, she would only destroy herself completely until she was left with nothing. Because the stories barely scratch the surface of this kind of plot, Relina occasionally grows weary of reading or watching them.
"Do you think I'm that shallow to ask that kind of thing from a human like you? Just so you know, I'm not just sleeping with one or two women. No matter how many women I like, I can get as many as I want, so there is no reason for me to desire any part of your body. I want nothing more than to be with you," the demon wolf stated.
Words that, if spoken by someone who was truly in love, would have been pleasing to hear, but in Relina's circumstances, she knew it was all complete insanity. What kind of relationship could exist between a human and a Yokai? What if they were together in the same house? She became even more terrified just thinking about it. How would her life be with this creature?
"Are you crazy or is it just natural for a creature like you to act that way? Everything you say is big insanity. Someone like you and a human being like me can't be together, so please, take me back," Relina begged again. She kept crying and wouldn't stop.
Relina had covered all the bases and made clear what she believed to be correct. She had tried her hardest to get the demon wolf to free her, but she believed she had come up empty-handed.
After slowly releasing his grip on Relina, the demon wolf turned his back on her.
"Be my mate. I promise I will bring you back safely to your world," the demon wolf said.
After hearing those words, Relina appeared to swallow her tongue. Even though their family was going through a great deal of hardship, she had never considered getting married young. Even in her dreams, she was unable to picture herself getting married and starting a family.
Relina would be able to accept that she would be his slave for the rest of her life, even if she had to give him her own body, so long as he kept his promise to return her safely to her world.
To be the mate of this being, though?
What huge insanity! To give consent to his wishes, her mind was still functioning normally. But if staying alive and leaving such a place were still priorities for her, she would have been forced to give her consent against her will.
Was she destined to have this kind of life?
Relina clenched her hands. She lowered her head and fixed her gaze on it. She was certain that if her grandfather was still alive, he would never permit this creature to approach her. He would move out of the way to ensure her safety, but at this point, neither her grandfather nor her parents, nor even the necklace, could provide her with more assistance than she could provide for herself.
"So be it. I will be your mate if this is the only way for me to return to my world." Relina's bitter reply nearly broke her heart, but she tried to be firm and strong in front of the demon wolf. She was aware that nothing would be simple for her, and at this point, her only tools were courage and confidence.
The demon wolf halted his actions after hearing what Relina said. His lips curled into a smile. He then cupped her face once again and gently raised her face until their eyes locked. He wiped away her tears, tightly closed his eyes, and gave her a tender kiss on the lips.
Relina was unable to avoid it because everything happened so quickly. It was all too late when she found her lips claimed by him.
Nearly pitch black. It won't be long before darkness rules once more. Fortunately, the demon wolf discovered a nearby abandoned cabin. Given that Relina in particular would not be safe that night, they would spend the night there.
The demon wolf was certain that a lot of Yokai had already discovered Relina through her scent at that very moment, so he set up a barrier throughout the area. Relina might have been in danger if he hadn't known about this, though.
"If you are worried about your safety, you shouldn't be because you have nothing to fear," the demon wolf remarked. "I will not allow the safety of my mate to be in danger."
The demon wolf was facing Relina from his seat.
"It would be best if you rested since tomorrow I will transport you to a safe area," the demon wolf added, closing his eyes.
Relina sputtered. She had to be crazy to sleep under that kind of circumstance. She had the sense that at any minute a monster would materialize out of nowhere in front of her, ending her life for sure. The demon wolf might end up hurting her; therefore, she couldn't trust him with her security.
Relina reclined. The fact that this thing was in front of her made her uncomfortable. She was about to close her eyes when, all of a sudden, she felt an odd heat.
"W-what are you doing?" Relina stuttered as she addressed the demon wolf. His face was buried in her back, his arms encircling her body.
"You smell good," the demon wolf whispered sexily as he sniffed Relina's nape.
Relina clutched her chest as she felt a vigorous heartbeat. With each second that his arms remained attached to her body, it got stronger. She could also feel the warmth of his breath seeping into her flesh. It seemed as though her heart might burst open.
"Mate?" The demon whispered once more and started licking Relina's nape slowly.
"Y-yes? What is it?" The air that was passing through Relina's nose suddenly halted, and she started to panic.
"Make love to me."
