“Grab her now!” I hurried towards her, reaching out just as Claudia took a step towards the ledge. I grabbed and pulled her to me. She dropped into my arms, blankly gazing up, lost and confused. It was like she wasn’t even there. Then, she passed out. All at once, the vortex vanished.
“Claudia?” I called to her, but if this thing had drained her completely, she would not respond.
Joseph came to my side and knelt next to me. Michael came through the roof door. He looked speechless. He had no idea what had just taken place. It was going to be interesting trying to explain everything when it came down to it. I wondered how he would take it knowing that Joseph had only discovered it when he had attempted to kidnap her.
“What happened?” Michael muttered.
