“A—a—another death threat?” Maya panicked, tapping on my arm nervously.
“Relax, it’s just a prank,” I tried to assure her, though a knot of anxiety twisted in my stomach.
“This is not a prank anymore, Isa! Who pulls off such a deadly prank twice?!” she said, her voice trembling.
She was right, but I desperately didn’t want to admit it. It was healthier to dismiss it as some misguided joke.
“This is a high school, Maya; it could really just be a prank,” I insisted, forcing a light tone in my voice.
