Chapter 4 She Wants a Divorce

1124 Words
Morning sunlight streamed into the room. Daniel opened his eyes to see Lena lying beside him with mixed feelings. Her face was serene and beautiful as she slept. Her skin seemed to glow softly, her long lashes casting delicate shadows over her face. She looked so peaceful. As Daniel watched Lena, a mix of emotions stirred within him. He reached out, lightly tracing his fingers along her cheek, only to find a hint of sadness in the curve of her lips. He pinched her face gently and muttered, "What do you have to be sad about?" His touch must have been too forceful, as it woke Lena from her sleep. She frowned and looked at Daniel, confusion in her eyes. "Ah!" Lena gasped, seeing Daniel's naked body and remembering the events of the previous night. She balled her fist and struck him. However, his muscles were as hard as steel. Her punches only hurt her own hand. "Bastard! How could you do this to me?" Lena cried, clutching her aching hand, her eyes brimming with tears. Daniel smirked. "You invited me." Lena was about to retort, but Daniel leaned down, his ice-blue eyes locking onto hers. "You shouldn't have gone to the casino," Daniel said in a low, warning tone. "And your brother, selling you to a casino... I should teach him a lesson. A piece of merchandise can't be sold twice." "I'm not merchandise!" Lena shouted, tears welling up as she thought of the injustices she had endured over the past three years. Her heart was plunging into an abyss of darkness, wrapped in cold and fear. Seeing Lena's tears, Daniel felt uncomfortable. He didn't understand this emotion and could only roughly command her not to cry. "Your bastard brother is already in my custody. If you want him to live..." "Let him die," Lena said coldly, her expression deadly serious. Daniel swallowed the rest of his threat. However, Lena's next words shocked him even more. "Let's get a divorce," Lena recalled her initial feelings for Daniel and felt they were now just a joke. To Daniel, she was nothing more than a tradable asset. "Divorce? Who do you plan to marry?" Daniel's gaze drifted over Lena's neck, where his marks from the night before still lingered. "You are my woman and can only belong to me. Besides, you clearly enjoyed last night." Lena grabbed a pillow and threw it at Daniel. "Bastard! That was because I was drugged!" Seeing his teasing smile, Lena got up to leave, accidentally exposing her bare back to him. The sight of her skin and the red marks reminded Daniel of last night's passion. Daniel was surprised to feel his body reacting once again. As the head of a mercenary group, he prided himself on his self-control. He never expected to lose it twice for this woman. Lena saw the torn pieces of her clothes on the floor and realized she couldn't leave wearing them. She opened Daniel's wardrobe, finding most of his clothes too large, except for a set of camo gear that barely fit, the cuffs stained with dark red. Lena guessed these were clothes Daniel wore before he fully grew into his size. When had he become a mercenary? This strong man must have had times of weakness and injury. As Lena walked to the door, she felt a looming presence behind her. "Where do you think you're going?" Daniel's cold voice came from behind. Lena took a deep breath and turned around. "If you don't love me, why won't you let me go?" Seeing Lena in his old clothes, Daniel was momentarily stunned. Then his gaze sharpened as he leaned in, trapping her against the door. "I spent 500,000 dollars to buy you. I haven't had my fill yet. Why would I let you go?" Lena's erratic heartbeat quickly calmed upon hearing Daniel's words. This bastard only cared about money! "My brother took the money. Go after him for it." "You just said to let him die. Dead men can't repay debts. You'll have to repay it." Lena bit her lip, frustration was evident on her face. Daniel's breathing grew heavier as he wrapped an arm around Lena's waist, pulling her close. Their bodies pressed tightly together, leaving no space between them. Lena felt the erection, her eyes widening in shock. Was this man a dog always in heat? Daniel cupped Lena's chin, about to kiss her when a knock sounded at the door. "Boss, Rosa is outside the camp. She says it's urgent." Hearing his subordinate, Daniel released Lena and turned to get dressed. A bitter feeling rose in Lena's chest. She asked, "Rosa? The woman who answered your phone yesterday?" Daniel paused but didn't seem to care much. "Don't misunderstand. She's like a sister to me. We grew up together." "Then why were you sleeping in her bed?" Daniel looked at Lena coldly. "I can sleep wherever I want." Lena blocked the door, but Daniel pulled her aside as he left. Lena watched him leave, her heart aching. Her already broken heart was torn apart. Her body trembled, tears welling up, but she refused them to fall. Daniel stopped at the corner. "Boss, Rosa..." "Send her back. She made a mistake and should be punished." Daniel cut off his subordinate and turned, intending to go back. But thinking Lena wouldn't want to see him, he headed towards the garage instead. Not knowing how to comfort a woman, Daniel decided to go fight. Before leaving, he instructed his men to keep a close eye on Lena. Lena composed herself, ready to leave, only to run into a returning soldier. "Mrs. Crother, the boss said you can't leave the camp." Lena thought it was ridiculous. Daniel went to see his lover but didn't let her leave. How unreasonable! "What's your name?" Lena asked, sizing up the man. He had clean-cut short hair, a tall and sturdy build, and arms that looked like they could snap steel bars. Lena knew she couldn't beat him in a fight. "Kane Rost," the man answered curtly. "Kane, if I can't leave the camp, can I at least go to the training ground?" Lena asked with a smile. She thought she might not be able to beat Kane now, but that didn't mean she never would. Kane was momentarily taken aback but nodded. "Of course." "Take me to the training ground. I need to practice," Lena said, rolling up her sleeves. "Mrs. Crother, you should wait until your injuries heal." Kane suggested, noting the red marks on Lena's arms. Lena quickly pulled her sleeves down, hiding the marks. She wanted to say she wasn't hurt and that it was all Daniel's doing, but that seemed even more embarrassing.
