Chapter 5 Daniel's Lover

990 Words
Lena turned and went back to her room, closing the door behind her. By nightfall, the bruises had faded. Her body had a remarkable ability to heal, meaning as long as she could endure the pain and not get killed, she could become stronger. Lena looked forward to the day she could overpower Daniel. "Though it seems difficult, I should have dreams." Lena encouraged herself. The next day, after much insistence, Kane finally agreed to take Lena to the training ground. The camp's training area was vast, surrounded by tall wire fences. The center was filled with various training equipment, like heavy barbells, massive sandbags, and racks of gleaming weapons, including an array of guns. There were also obstacles of different heights to train agility and combat scenarios. Instructors, dressed in camouflage, their muscular bodies solid and imposing, guided the mercenaries through their training. The air was thick with a strong masculine scent. Lena's arrival immediately caught everyone's attention. "Whoa, a beauty!" Someone whistled a hint of flirtation in the tone. "Come check out my muscles!" A burly man said, flexing his biceps. Some even walked up to Lena, trying to chat. "Knock it off!" Kane's voice boomed across the training ground. "She's the boss' woman. Show some respect!" Upon hearing this, everyone straightened up, their flirty attitudes vanishing instantly. Lena ignored them and walked over to an instructor, expressing her desire to learn combat techniques. "Are you sure?" The instructor eyed Lena's frail-looking frame with doubt. "This isn't a game for kids." "I'm sure," Lena said firmly. "I want to learn to protect myself." She added in her mind, "And to beat your boss and escape this place." The instructor hesitated, worried Lena wouldn't be able to handle the intense training. Lena had to assert her authority as Mrs. Crother to pressure the instructor into agreeing. She proved her determination with action. For the next three days, Lena sweated it out on the training ground, starting with the basics of combat. Though her physique was far from those seasoned mercenaries, she never gave up. Every night, she would lie in her room, feeling the soreness and fatigue in her body, but her heart was full of satisfaction and pride. She knew she was becoming stronger. Lena's persistence and effort inspired everyone in the camp. The standard training hours were doubled, making the instructors exhausted and even want to quit. Kane, seeing the camp's renewed enthusiasm, was impressed with Lena. He thought that spending 500,000 dollars on her was a bargain compared to the instructors' salaries. Just then, a woman's voice rang out from outside. "Where is Daniel? Daniel!" Lena recognized the voice, frowning as she turned to look at the entrance of the training ground. A curvaceous woman in a low-cut skirt and heavy makeup strutted in. Her eyes scanned the training ground until they landed on Lena. "What did you tell Daniel? Why doesn't he want to see me?" Lena was surprised by Rosa's question. Daniel hadn't gone to see her after leaving? Rosa walked towards Lena, a girl in instructor's clothing following her, glaring at Lena with hatred. The people training turned their curious gazes towards the commotion. Rosa stopped in front of Lena, her arrogant expression turning pitiful. "I know I was wrong. Please don't stop me from seeing Daniel. I just didn't want him risking his life for you when I hung up your call." Lena's voice was cold. "I almost died because of you." "But you didn't, did you?" Rosa said, her eyes feigning innocence. She leaned in, whispering venomously, "Your useless brother couldn't even get you killed." "It was you?" Lena grabbed Rosa's collar in fury. Rosa smiled maliciously and then screamed, drawing the attention of everyone in the training ground. The scream disoriented Lena, and before she could react, someone shoved her. If she hadn't been training seriously and learned some combat skills, the fall could have knocked her out. Lena looked up to see the girl who had been standing behind Rosa attacking her. The girl was surprised to see her attack fail and quickly rushed towards Lena again. "Amy, stop!" Kane's voice shouted. Amy's leg didn't stop, aiming for Lena's shoulder. Lena pressed her hands to the ground, twisting her body to dodge. The floor cracked where Amy's kick landed. If it had hit Lena, Lena would have been seriously injured. Kane rushed over, blocking Amy's next attack. "Amy, are you crazy? She's Mrs. Crother!" Amy turned her cold gaze towards Kane, clearly not agreeing with him. Lena, filled with anger and confusion, didn't understand why she was being attacked. Before she could speak, Rosa interjected. "Lena and Daniel's marriage is a mistake!" Rosa shouted. "She used to live in the red-light district. Who knows how many men she's slept with? She might even have diseases. She's unworthy of standing by Daniel's side!" Rosa's words hit like a bomb, causing an immediate uproar among the crowd. Lena felt the judgmental stares but remained calm, showing no signs of panic or shame. "I have amnesia. I don't remember any of that." Lena replied confidently, leaving Rosa unsure of how to continue. Kane stepped up to support Lena. "What's in the past should stay in the past." Rosa's eyes flashed with anger, but she quickly changed her expression when Kane noticed. "She hasn't changed her dirty habits. She's still seducing men!" Rosa accused. Lena's anger boiled over. She clenched her fists, her nails desperately pinched her palms. Being slandered by her husband's lover was the most absurd thing she'd encountered. She blamed Daniel for this. Without his indulgence, Rosa wouldn't dare speak this way. Rosa continued her accusations. "A few days ago, she went to a casino to mess around with several men. Daniel was so furious he nearly started a war with the gang behind the casino. Have you all forgotten?" Rosa's words cast a heavy silence over the training ground.
